I don't play this anymore due to lack of free time but few folks in B12 and myself founded the StA. I think above is a great recruitment post!

It's nice to see the clan is still going strong after 2.5 years!

Thanks! Though as for going strong, we're holding the Fort, but Illyriad's getting more violent. There's a new world Trove war going on, and the precedent it's setting is one of permanent annihilation to enemies of alliances. So the long term goal is to get enough StA players settled on our islands that it's impossible for outsiders to even consider "accidentally" settling on sovereign lands. Then - pure peace on the bloody islands. Funny how that works?

Some good news!

The StA has recaptured Azura's long lost capital! Daggerclutches!

It seems odd to think that this city has been in the game longer than most players, but that is one of the elements that makes Illyriad completely different from others. Cities have emotional value attached to them. It takes a year and a half of diligent city growing to achieve a Legendary City. That's a long time. Yet, an unopposed siege could knock down a legendary city in a week or so with just five catapults. That's why war in Illyriad is only waged when absolutely necessary. The risks are too great.

At the moment though, Illyriad is in the midst of what many would call "IllryiadWWII". The war involves most of the large alliances including the two largest, Invictus and Harmless?. This war broke out in the middle of October and has been continuing on. It's not likely to end soon. Wars in Illyriad are long lasting affairs. An unopposed siege will only take about a week to finish. A fought over siege could take weeks or months. Very realistic when you think about it. You don't just fling troops out at the start of a war. Troops in Illyriad take a long time to train. 1,000 Dwarven Stalwarts take approximately eight days to train. 1,000 Stalwarts consume 1,000 platemail, 1,000 chainmail, 2,000 swords, 1,000 kegs of beer, and 4,000 gold to make. Many of those resources also take up to 8 days to produce 1,000 of them. Plus the basic resources used to create those manufactured goods. 1,000 Stalwarts is no fighting force either, The largest armies consist of 36,000 infantry. Due to cavalry's massive power they tend to be the most used troop, and they take even longer to build and even more resources. So, you have to keep troops in reserve and exercise caution, you actually have to use strategy. That's why wars in Illyriad are expensive and many can't last more than a week or two. The travel times don't help either. It can take sieges 14 days to get halfway across the map.

Several announcements to make!

________________________________________________________

The crows are forming a Winter tournament, open to everyone with 0 pop to 30,000, separated into 3 leagues. Much Fun is to be won. Check the link for details, but the premise is new - players have to compete with each other's blockades to secure resources sent by the Crows.
________________________________________________________

Council meeting!

Points of discussion:
  • Formation of a council (really overdue), with titles and responsibilities appropriate. Duuvian, KillianBlack and Chaos Armor so far are immediately obvious candidates.
  • Dividing Armokipelago Islands into separate territories, each governed by their own Overseers. This could make sure immigration problems are sorted much more easily (no more "was this city here before?" questions), and could even create the premise of areas where foreigners are allowed to settle, whilst solidifying StA lands.
  • Land claims over Farra and Rill, are they worth the trouble? (Yes)
  • Goals for 2013
  • New alliance profile to match (long overdue as well)

________________________________________________________

The Bloody Harvest tournament is long since over, with the participants on our end having received 80 naked blue men and 2 soul-forged swords, which I swear are the most badass toothpicks in all of history. The Slaves to Armok finished 8th place out of  the top 10 alliances (all in the top 20 alliances on the server), narrowly being beaten by Murder of Crows by FIVE POINTS! It was well fought, but we could not beat the largest confederation on the server.
What with being a page 3 alliance (we were smaller than all the other alliances competing in the tip top 10 by far).
We're kinda smug about that. We pack a powerful bite.

________________________________________________________

The Great Trove War is still going on (Consone VS H? & Allies). Some more people joined the war, some people left, a few cities were razed.
Both sides have finally piped down and started keeping all the details of the war private. Illyriad has calmed down a great deal and it seems that both sides have exhausted most of their forces yet again - there was even a period of peace to mark the passing of a player endeared to both sides.
Chaos Armour's right about the cost of war, so much so that it's considered a courtesy to not raze the enemy's city, and instead leave it roughed up but salvagable.

And lastly,
StA is still recruiting! Get your Bay watching behind down here and overseering some Blood-reaping cities!

Council meeting!

Points of discussion:
[1]Formation of a council (really overdue), with titles and responsibilities appropriate. Duuvian, KillianBlack and Chaos Armor so far are immediately obvious candidates.
[2]Dividing Armokipelago Islands into separate territories, each governed by their own Overseers. This could make sure immigration problems are sorted much more easily (no more "was this city here before?" questions), and could even create the premise of areas where foreigners are allowed to settle, whilst solidifying StA lands.
[3]Land claims over Farra and Rill, are they worth the trouble? (Yes)
[4]Goals for 2013
[5]New alliance profile to match (long overdue as well)

My Ideas:

[1] A 3-tier system and an extra:
1. 1 Monarch - appointed by T2 - max of 1
2. 1 Duke/Duchess for each major region - elected by T3 from the T3 in each major region - max of 2 (I think there's only two regions we've claimed)
3. 1 Count/Countess or 1 Baron/Baroness for each minor region - elected by others - max of 10
E. 1 "Foreign Affairs" person for each quarter world - as in, NW, NE, etc. - appointed by Monarch

T1 will make major decisions on the entire alliance
T2 will make the "laws" for their region, like land claims
T3 will make minor "laws" for their part, like specific land claims, etc.
E will work at [4, 1] and stuff.

[2] See §1, T3.

[3] See §1, T1 and T2.

[4] Hmmm...
1. Spread out, maybe have a few cities in each region? It would increase our effectiveness. (As in, mostly gathering the rare special resources)

This will increase as I get inspiration.

[5] Hmmm...

I'll think about it, maybe give a few suggestions.

I sent invites to the both of you, but you'll have to research negotiation before you can join. Then refresh your page and you'll have access to StA alliance chat shindigs :D
If you need anything feel free to ask us via alliance chat or in game mail. As eccentrically as possible.

[1] Just one supreme commander? Doesn't seem right for StA in my opinion. Also I think we're saving the monarch title for when we overthrow King Siguard and establish independence in the Armokipelagos.
Foreign dignitaries sounds awesome, as with everything else. I'd bump Barons up to top tier (or create our own new title) and replace Counts with mayors or Chief Lords or something. Make it more DF-y. Aesthetics mainly though.
[4] Seems reasonable enough. I'm colonizing Tallimar-by-the-sea myself with Sirius.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Diplomacy in our alliance is quick with alliance chat :D
So on a more serious note, I propose we call the council a parliament, and call the collection of Lords in each territory the council.

I like pretty much everything that has been suggested, but I would like to suggest one more thing.

At RoaryStar's suggestions for 1 through 3, I suggest we add one more tier of leadership, A parliament which writes up a list of petitions for the Counts and Countesses to vote over. The other functions of parliment would be to yell loudly things like "OBJECTION!" "POINT OF INFORMAAATIOOON!"  "MISTER SPEAKER! MISTER SPEAKA!" while spilling their tea.

The Times of Daggerfall, Jan/7/1023

Extra extra, inside sources of STA are proud to state that a magnificently magical update is upcoming (Soon TM)! This update shall be adding 5 new schools of magic into the game. Abjuration to augment your physical defences, Animal Lore to harass your foes and augment your hide supply, countermagic to vex annoying hex slingers, Elementalism to summon deadly elementals and potent magical components and lastly, the dark and nefarious art of necromancy which will allow more... morally malleable lords and lady to summon anonymous armies of the undead.

Due to our natural deposits of rare magical components, we are in a unique position to benefit from this update. Several other factors of the islands geography and wildlife make several schools especially interesting.

Due to the hordes of poisonous crawlers on our homeland, the school of Animal looks especially appealing. Who doesn't love being in control of a free army of giant, poisonousness worm creatures?

As for necromancy... Well, let's just say that any squatters on our fair island are welcome to join our armies of the undead.

Truly, these will make for interesting times in Great Farra and Illyriad itself and it will be unknown what ramifications it can have both economically and politically, besides for one thing... It will surely bring lots of *FUN*

Yeah – If we wind up being able to bind the legions of poisonous crawlers on Farra and Rill to our wills then we are going to be in a much stronger position, I think. I'm looking forward to it. :)

The countermagic school looks like it's worth keeping an eye on, as it may be able break spells cast on wilderness squares, including some of these animal charms.

Abjuration may also prove useful for military purposes. The highest-level spell I've seen a write-up for claims to be able to break a siege!

Interesting stuff.

County plan for the regional division into territories.

Also I propose a ban on the use of certain destructive magics on StA sovereignty - Necromancy for starters, and non-commissioned/sanctioned poaching of Poisonous Crawlers, as well as the mandatory tagging of all Crawler legions, should these get implemented soon.

Trying this out. I assume playing dwarf is a given? :)

Alright I've got this settlement running, chose elf. Yeah I know, burn the elf at the (wooden) stake. My elves will be badasses, you'll see.
Ingame name is Jel, my settlement of Valleywood is at -294 | 76. Throw me an invite to this alliance thing if you would. :)

Up to you :P

Oh and don't forget! You can have TWO accounts!

Yeah – If we wind up being able to bind the legions of poisonous crawlers on Farra and Rill to our wills then we are going to be in a much stronger position, I think. I'm looking forward to it. :)
Farra Isle will suddenly be in a position of great power. If we can use the lures to keep them contained - we can breed legions of wild poisonous Crawlers and unleash them upon the Azurans or the Kumalans. Depends on factions I guess :P
I feel like our hold over the islands could take new purpose with this update. Keepers of the Crawlers.

The countermagic school looks like it's worth keeping an eye on, as it may be able break spells cast on wilderness squares, including some of these animal charms.
What happens when two people use counter magic spells? Infinite reflecting blights? :P

Abjuration may also prove useful for military purposes. The highest-level spell I've seen a write-up for claims to be able to break a siege!

Ah yes. I wonder how it scatters them. Splits the divisions, sends them across the map in different directions then they go home? It is rather weird. I wonder how the devs'll implement it. How will magic resistant armies effect it?

  • Formation of a council (really overdue), with titles and responsibilities appropriate. Duuvian, KillianBlack and Chaos Armor so far are immediately obvious candidates.

  • Goals for 2013
  • New alliance profile to match (long overdue as well)
[1]Council has been formed, Duuvian (Also Naivuud), KillianBlack, Chaos Amor and myself have formed the new role of "Useful Nobility," we sincerely hope you do not try to magma us if we mandate more Crawler bone tables.
[2]Farra has indeed been divided. All it needs now are barons to oversee each county, as well as delegates for the newly formed territories + appropriate names for each territory and title.
Responsibilities of each territory overseer:
  • Keep THE LIST of all cities within their territories. Once set up, new cities on Farra can be more effectively planned upon, and illegal cities can be effectively dealt with.
  • Maintaining a stable poisonous Crawler population. Executing illegal poachers of our precious crawlers :3 [Ok this is optional, but Farra and Rill are Crawler protected reserve zones, we maintain the populations to ensure the world never stops having access to what amounts to giant poisonous Mothra larvae]
  • Appointing delegates.
  • Minor policies within each territory, such as directing supply cities.
  • [3]Land claim still stands, but it may be added that the status of Poisonous Crawlers shall be changed to be a protected species while they reside on StA sovereignty.
  • [4]Building an appropriate flag on any of the Armokipelago islands, I'm thinking about made out of sov on our island, with the city sustaining it renamed to Slaves to Armok. A long term goal.
  • Acquiring of tea.
  • Ask devs to implement tea.
  • Effective herding of Poisonous Crawlers away from populated zones and into mountain nature reserves. Long term goal.
  • The consolidation of Farra Isle so that none other than our alliance can settle on it, not withstanding the land claim. The goal is to use Tenaril's teleportation spell to bring a single 7 food city onto our island at least, both improving Farra's value, the hold over its sovereignty and giving the owner a 7 food [mountain preferably] city on Farra.

Mountain cities are boss. Needs more new players for this to be realized however; though the program has already started. If we can get enough cities on our island (enough that in every 10 square radius of one StA city there is another), Farra will be the most peaceful region in the map. Because there will only be Dorf.
  • New profile will be updated to match in accordance with new policies (new policies being discussed in AC and IGM).

Up for discussion now:
  • Introduce mandated standing armies?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

To sum up, StA is doing better than it's ever done in a long while, at least while I've seen it :P

To sum up, StA is doing better than it's ever done in a long while, at least while I've seen it :P

On the contrary, the StA is the same as it has always been (At least while I've been in Illyriad, which has been over a year), meaning that it is doing exceptionally well.

Up for discussion now:
  • Introduce mandated standing armies?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The StA is meant to be an alliance for Bay12 members or Illyriad players who have similar interests. It is not meant to be a military superpower and its military status has been achieved by its members' personal agendas. Therefore we have no need of this mandate.

  • Improve diplomatic ties with any other alliances? (Currently focused on Crows).
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Why the Crows? I'd work more on improving our diplomatic ties with the second page alliances. First page alliances may be the powerhouses but the Second page alliances are more likely to get involved with Third page alliances since the First page alliances usually don't help the Third page alliances because it causes mucho angustia. Perfect example and one you have been around for Loud Whispers, The Great Trove War.

NOTE: I don't think we should discuss matters of StA interest on the forums. Many StA members are not members of Bay12.
