Mr. Ebbor hasn't been on the forum at all since 3/30.  I fear he may have fallen in a hole.

Ebbor: I've updated the Mano de Ayuda design for you, with the new fuel tanks, I assume that doesn't count for design costs?
Yup, doing the Gm's work for him is free.

10ebbor10, can I reduce the cost of designing by upgrading my factory? Also, I should have an extra $1000 (since my income should be $14300, not $13300) Also also, does my capsule have a heatshield already or do I need to invent one? Finally, how much do my astronauts weigh?
The capsule has a one time use heathshield and parachutes. I'll let you reduce the cost of designing by upgrading the factory, but the gain won't be much (-500 per level)
Astronauts weight around 75 kg, I guess.

Are station parts limited by the rocket factory's production cap, or can I build as many per year as I can afford?
If 2m of station pieces takes 2m of factory time away from rockets, I'd like to fill out my factory time this turn with as many 2m station parts as I can afford.

Nah,  they are payload. No manufacturing time.

Alright, those answers are good to know 10ebbor10. Could you answer my next set of questions (and confirm whether or not I can host that conference I was planning)? Also Nirur Torir, could you edit your turn with our technology trade?

Oh, and me and RulerofNothing have a little something planned. Confidential, though :D
You'll find out soon enough.

I would like to ask 10ebbor10 some additional questions:
  • For payloads with no listed height, how many of them can be placed on a rocket with no extra payload space?
  • Do payloads with a listed height require that amount of free payload space always?
  • Can we put multiple payloads in one rocket, assuming there is enough space?
  • What does it mean when you say mass drivers are a late-game tech?
Also, Nirur Torir, would you be interested in trading for your reusable single stage hull?
1. Unless it gets silly
2. You can just put them on top of your rocket, but this might result in damage to the payload.
3. Of course.
4. High costs/ long research time /.... (Technically you can begin researching now, but it will take a lot of time.)

@ Kingfisher: I will let you specialize laboratories (by retooling an existing one). Retooling cost 2500 and 1 turn. While being retooled a lab can do research, ut the bonus doesn't count. A lab that has been specialised for something gets a bonus but  can't do other research. You can retool labs back to their common state.

Research!
Develop better cameras for us to use in the spysat(German Scientist)
Develop the -solar panel follows the sun- tech. (me)I will count this as updating the solar pannels, bacause the game mechanics will like that better.
Research more powerful medium explosives.

Construction:
Build 3 more contacts
BUILD THE FREAKING FACTORY AND MAKE IT PRODUCE SOLARPANELS ASDAHFOEWHPQIDJASD

Other: Spend 1000 on advertising our solar panels
Visit a university and do a show on how our panels work.

Announce that ASTRO will host an international conference on space science in the next 4 years, with the intention of discussing the future direction of ASTRO's space science program, especially in regards to doing experiments for various science agencies (say that ASTRO will commit to doing at least 2 experiments decided upon by the attendees)
This will have different effects depending on how much you want to invest.
0: Just a meeting, no effects.
5000: Game-event. PR bonusses for actions undertaken by delegations send by other players. (Launching a rocket and showing the video counts as this , for example). Host gets a pr bonus depending on how succesfull the event was.
10000: Idem but larger...

So does that mean that the conference is not very useful if no-one else is doing space science? I am probably going to table that idea for the moment then.

Any type of delegation is good. Even if they just decide to show a single rocket launch. Their delegations don't have to be about space science to get the bonus.

Turn 17: 1962-1963
Note: In an attempt to speed up turns, I will now only recalculate designs on demand, rather then always.
Also on Taikonaut training, you can increase the training speed. ( Speed training run) but that might result in casualties.

W.A.T. Yearly report

1. Finish Larger Fuel Tanks. The fuel tank is finished.
2. Begin Research on Agriculture on Space Stations. Work here progresses fast.
3. Continue Research on Living Quarters for Space Stations.

Construction:

Build Thermobaric Artillery Shells. Done, though efficient production will require a seperate factory. (Think, commercialising)

Other:

Sell Thermobaric Artillery Shells to Government. You sold the grenades for 600.

Start a PR campaign promoting the German Space Program and how it unites the German People. Emphasize the German Unity in Face of the Austrian Danger (3000)
It doesn't go very well, but at least it doesn't get worse.

Start another PR Program trying to increase relations with the Scots and the Chinese...
This doesn't work out well either. You managed to offend the Scottish ambassador(On a second though, offering him smuggled scottish wiskhey wasn't a good idea) while there's no progress made with the  Chinese.

Expenses: 7500

Research:
Dr Smith will develop a solar powered SEA satellite with hardened electronics (solar flare resistance)[free] The sattelite is developped in record time. It will cost 1500 and is ready for use.
Lab 1 will increase the thrust of the solid fuel[-$1000] Work progresses quite fqst.
Lab 2 will redesign the 3-person capsule with hardened electronics (give it this ability, or if that doesn't work, replace it with a newly designed solar flare-proof 3-person capsule)[-$1000] Some minor trouble with liquid oxygen tanks prevents progress from being made. Luckly the team had fire equipement at hands(They probably heard the rumors). (Also the solarflare proofing will only do the electronics, and not the crew. So the crew will be irradiated but the lifesupport will keep functioning)
Lab 3 will develop ASTRO's battery technology for the commercial market[-$1000] Work here progresses but not fast.
Research cost: $3000

Design:
None this year.

Construction:
Improve the factory to reduce design costs (-$5000 I think) Done
Construction cost:$5000

Production:
2 Redstone II (-$1550)
2 SEA satellites (-$2000)
Production cost:$3550

Launch:
Launch 1:Launch the SEA satellite towards Mercury using a Redstone II rocket. Have the satellite orbit Mercury and take pictures of its surface. The launch doesn't go very well, but it goes nevertheless.
With that, you have fulfilled your promise and have infact, atracted the attention of several respected universities and renowned compagnies. The universities would like to do an experiment or two, and the compagnies offers are mostly publicity stunts.(My product is so good it even works in space) though a few compagnies want to do genuine studies, mostly to see how their products would react to different pressure.
+2 Prestige
Launch 2:Launch the SEA satellite towards the Moon using a Redstone II rocket. Have the satellite take yet more pictures of the lunar surface. The launch goes quite bad, but everything is Ok at the end.

Other:
Since my solar cell technology originated in Austria, send the computer feedback blueprints to ASC as well. Done
Announce that ASTRO will host an international conference on space science in the next 4 years, with the intention of discussing the future direction of ASTRO's space science program, especially in regards to doing experiments for various science agencies (say that ASTRO will commit to doing at least 2 experiments decided upon by the attendees)
The news of the conference isn't picked up by the press.
Spend $2000 in an attempt to recruit skilled scientists, preferably scientists with knowledge of fuel chemistry or electronics (fuel scientist or payload designer).
Nah, despite the search the entire budget is wasted without succes
Trade my normal fuel research for CHASE's work on reusable single stage hulls. Done

Total cost: $13550

C.H.A.S.E. Yearly report

Research:
Lab 1st floor: Improve the success chance of space suits. No progress here, though some of the spacesuits made it to 6 km far. That heliumbased air might have been a mistake
Lab 2nd floor (Yi shing): Space Stations: Theoretical. ($2000) Work here goes really, really fast.
Lab 3rd floor (Shaiming Hu): Medium chemical life support unit (10 people [9 if that's the limit for 2m station modules], energy-based). Work here goes quite fast.
Lab 4th floor: Safe cockpit module (3 pilots, an escape rocket with just enough fuel to get away from an explody thing and head for Earth [if near Earth], a return heatshield, a way to easily use suit oxygen tanks for emergencies, able to hit the Earth without killing everyone inside, and some way for the crew to survive if they hit water. I'd sorta like an increased chance of success if everything's fine and I just decide to use it as the re-entry vehicle. It will need a docking system at some point, if that needs to be designed in. 4m's fine, or 5m if the 4m design would have a maximum survival rate below 75%.)

Design & Production
None.

Construction
None.

Missions:
None.

Taikonaut Recruitment:
Spend $4000 recruiting people of at least .75 skill. You find 2 persons:
Expedite the training of taikonauts three, four, and eight. They'll die of old age before becoming useful at their current rate.

Other:
Aerospace department investment (year 2 of 5) ($1000)
Trade my Reusable Single Stage Hull blueprints for ASTRO's Normal Fuel.

Total expenses: $10,000

Construction
2 Vengadors and 3 Mano de Ayudas

Other
Ask the Generalissimo if he still wants more rockets, if he does, make and sell the Vengadors to him. No he doesn't. He seems to be in a particullary hippieistic mode this year.
Stage a large advertising campaign, looking for promising scientists, astronauts and sponsors. STARS is willing to provide tuition to certain candidates. (spend 4000 on this, and PR)
The campaing doesn't get you much new scientist, but due too smart adverstising(ie coupling this with rebuilding projetcs) you gain some recognition.
+2 prestige.

Radnom event: New general science scientist.

Expenditure
10,350 (3k Thrusters, 1k Fuel, 1.6k Vengadors, 4k advertising, 750 Mano de Ayuda)

DWARF Yearly report.
Research:

[Research:
Sleeping Quarters:  Extend the maximum stay.  (1k?) WOrk here doesn't progress well, and another fatal computer chrash is narrowly avoided.

[Electronics Expert] Computer Feedback:  Increase the safety improvement.  (2k) Yeehz, it seems the facility caught a rather nasty virus. Luckly the electronic expert could prevent damage.

[Fuel Scientist] XL Fuel Tank:  Increase its capacity. (1k) Work here goes very fast. Tank reached max cap 1500 L

[Thruster Scientist]  Large thruster:  More power. (3k) The virus strikes again.  (Seriuosly, that were frickin bad rolls)

Designs:

[Personal Design]
Try to increase the reentry safety margin on the Explorer. Work here goes well

Research
Research VASIMIR engines. Work here doesn't go very fast. Also the magnets are perfect , so that 'll need some work

Research Ceramic hulls. Work here goes slow.
Manufacture

Launch
A diamond 1 to take more pictures. The launch is succesfull.

Other: Start construction of a specialized Plasma Lab. ( Can only research plasma, gains bonuses. )

You can modify One of your labs to do this. If you wanted I will rectroactively edit.
C.a.s.p.

Research!
Develop better cameras for us to use in the spysat(German Scientist)Work here progresses. ( I took this a upgrading the spysat)
