What if they can't do other research.
Even then, if you could get them for 5000 each you could just build one for every type of research.

Space labs are a different ruling. ( Because you need to prep an experiment on Earth, send it up then  and then run it). So while the lab will be cheap, the cost per experiment will be high.

I will make rules for large spacelabs and colonies later, zhen we get to it.

Ebbor: I've updated the Mano de Ayuda design for you, with the new fuel tanks, I assume that doesn't count for design costs?

Dr Smith will develop a solar powered SEA satellite with hardened electronics (solar flare resistance)[free]
Lab 1 will increase the thrust of the solid fuel[-$1000]
Lab 2 will redesign the 3-person capsule with hardened electronics (give it this ability, or if that doesn't work, replace it with a newly designed solar flare-proof 3-person capsule)[-$1000]
Lab 3 will develop ASTRO's battery technology for the commercial market[-$1000]

Design:
None this year.

Construction:
Improve the factory to reduce design costs (-$5000 I think)

2 Redstone II (-$1550)

Launch:
Launch 1:Launch the SEA satellite towards Mercury using a Redstone II rocket. Have the satellite orbit Mercury and take pictures of its surface.

Since my solar cell technology originated in Austria, send the computer feedback blueprints to ASC as well.
Announce that ASTRO will host an international conference on space science in the next 4 years, with the intention of discussing the future direction of ASTRO's space science program, especially in regards to doing experiments for various science agencies (say that ASTRO will commit to doing at least 2 experiments decided upon by the attendees)
Spend $2000 in an attempt to recruit skilled scientists, preferably scientists with knowledge of fuel chemistry or electronics (fuel scientist or payload designer).
Trade my normal fuel research for CHASE's work on reusable single stage hulls.

10ebbor10, can I reduce the cost of designing by upgrading my factory? Also, I should have an extra $1000 (since my income should be $14300, not $13300) Also also, does my capsule have a heatshield already or do I need to invent one? Finally, how much do my astronauts weigh?

I would like to ask 10ebbor10 some additional questions:
  • For payloads with no listed height, how many of them can be placed on a rocket with no extra payload space?
  • Do payloads with a listed height require that amount of free payload space always?
  • Can we put multiple payloads in one rocket, assuming there is enough space?
  • What does it mean when you say mass drivers are a late-game tech?
Also, Nirur Torir, would you be interested in trading for your reusable single stage hull?

I would think that you would be able to send a delegation, considering it's supposed to be an international conference. I am not sure how you could help otherwise, though I think I am going to sell the services of 2 SEA satellites next turn for the usual rate ($750 for a shared mission, $3000 for complete control of the satellite and sole access to the results)
