You selled to the governement, who where so kind to figure out that making their own rockets might be cheaper and therefore gave one to them for reverse engineering. Stars are spains national governement funded space organisation.( I rolled for it)

Yay that were some really bad rolls. Worse and they would have laid the link between the rebels rockets and their rockets.

Research: German scientist work on making thrusters more powerful
I work on seeing if an explosive can be mounted onto a rocket.

Designs: nothing!

Other: Send anything we learn in this year to the Austrians, for them to use.

All done.

W.A.T. Yearly report

Lab 1st floor: Develop Small Nuclear power plants (+40 Secret Weapon Scientist). There has been a small radiation leak in the lab. Nobody is hurt but the cleaning will cost quite a lot (5000)
Lab 2nd floor: Improve the Kerosene (+10 Fuel Scientist). Work on the fuel progresses slow.

Design & Production
Build More Regained II inclusive Warheads

Other:
Press Conference in which the Spionage Incident with the Austrians will be made Public. Demand Recompense. The pressconference has some minor postive effects. Now it all depends on the reaction of the Austrians.

Make A Deal with Isreal: Selling rockets to them but only if they sign a contract in that they will not try and reverse-engineer the rockets. Trade  negotiations fail and the Israelis decide not to buy anything.

Total expenses: 2000+1000+1150=4150

ASTRO Yearly report

Research:
Dr Smith is recovering from his injuries, and will not conduct any research this turn.
Lab 1 will make another attempt at making a life support module (and go easy on the liquid oxygen this time) (-$1000) Lab 1 makes good progress on the Lifesupport module.
Lab 2 will continue improving the standard fuel (-$1000)Standard fuel research doesn't progress much.
Research cost:$2000

Design:
None this year.

Construction:
None this year.

Production:
1 Redstone II (-$775)
1 SEA satellite (-$1000)
Production Cost: $1775

Launch:
Launch an SEA satellite into a stable low earth orbit using a Redstone II rocket. Have the SEA satellite investigate the environment of space (and measure things such as magnetic field strength and radiation intensity). I suppose this would count as improving payload research if I can't simply research the space environment.

The SEA is launched  perfectly, although there were some minor launch problems with the first stage. The sattelite is deployed succesfully and manages to get some valuable info on the solar flames.
+2 Prestige

Total Cost: $3775

C.H.A.S.E. Yearly report

Research:
Lab 1st floor: Improve lifetime of solar cells ($2000). Work on the solar panel continues.
Lab 2nd floor: All-around improvements to the reusable single stage hull. ($1000), Some improvements are made, mostly in the weight departments.

Design & Production
Build a second Expedition rocket.($750)

Construction
Upgrade laboratory to three projects/year. ($10,000)

Missions:
Use Expedition rockets to get a solar powered satellite into stable LEO. Only use the second if the first fails. ($1500-$3000 )
The first launch is immediatly succesfull. The last of the sceptic press are convinced.
+4 Prestige

Other:
Press conferences, including invites to top university classes. ($3000) The press conferences are a giant succes and almost all universities respond to your actions. They would like to do a joint project with your organisation, but lack the funds required to make frequent trips.
Improve prestige from my first launch of the year.
Anti-espionage security guards. ($1000). Guards monitored your base 24/ 24. Nothing happened.

Total expenses: $19,250-$20,750

STARS Yearly report

Research
-Dr Faust lightens the thrusters yet more. Dr Faust manages to lighten the Thrusters once more, and is now working on increasing the Thrusters burn rate.( Due to complexity the price increased with 1000 once more)
-Reverse Engineer that Thermobaric Warhead. Progress on the reverse engineering is swift, but isn't finished yet.

Design
Modify the following design:
-El Perajo Cantor II
Height: 10 meters
Weight:1910kg (2387.5kg at MEO)
Thrust: 2250kg
Payload: 565kg (87.5 at MEO)
-'Mano de Ayuda' x4 (+225kg thrust)
-Single Stage Hull (10m) = 750kg
-Small Thruster (1m) = 50kg
-Small Fuel Tanks (8m) =1000kg
-Communications Satellite (1m) = 110kg

Construction
Construct the final 8 meters of the El Parajo Cantor II to the specs above
Construct 1 Mano de Ayudo

Other
Declare that STARS will get a communicating satellite into MEO within 3 years.
You get 1 Prestige for your promise.
Inform all the Spanish university's that STARS is looking for talented individuals to help explore the next frontier (bonus to getting a scientist in the next few turns? Don't mind spending funds on it)
Unfortunatley the current war situation means that all universities are closed.

There's a stalemate going on currently, as the governement as reinforced their positions but fails to drive back the rebels

Expenses
4850 (3k Thrusters, 1k Thermobaric, 250 Booster, 600 rocket)

DWARF Yearly report.

Research:
Life Support Module:  Expand the weight capacity more! Thanks to new comp simulations, research goes fast.

Rocket Escape:  Make it more reliable.Work here goes fast too.

Re: The Space Race: CHASE
« Reply #323 on: March 03, 2012, 04:38:25 pm »

((Do I need to do anything for this joint project other than pay for train tickets?))

CHASE

Xin Su was satisfied with the responses from the universities. He had found a few potential candidates to succeed him, but none that he truly felt were worthy of his title, eager though they were. He would keep looking. Perhaps he would even retire earlier than he originally intended, once his replacement was trained.

Yes ... He glanced at a proposal on his desk. A giant manned satellite. Perhaps he would retire after getting a 'space station' into orbit, and taking a term on it. His name would long be remembered.

Research:
Lab 1st floor: Taikonaut training facility.
Lab 2nd floor: Escape rocket.
Lab 3rd floor: Life support, theoretical.

Design & Production
Mothball the Flare design, but don't delete it entirely -- I do not expect to need it again, and so it probably won't need to be updated, but I'd rather not completely scrap it.

Construction
Upgrade laboratory security. ($5000)
Invest in the aerospace department of a nearby university ($5000)

Missions:
None.

Other:
Try to get a contract with the Chinese government for solar satellites, including the one currently in orbit.
Try to get a contract with the Scottish government for the usage rights to a single solar satellite in orbit. (CHASE will still own it, and have the rights to reclaim it once it dies if the Scottish are unwilling to pay for CHASE to repair it.)
Train fees for university personnel traveling to or from CHASE. Prioritize science. ($1500)
Press conference: Announce that a Chinese space station will be in orbit in ten years. ($2000)

Total expenses: $16500

Research:
Dr Smith will increase the survivability of the life support module (free)
Lab 1 will reduce the weight of the single stage hull with the help of Konrad Becker (-$1000)
Lab 2 will continue to improve the standard fuel (-$1000)
Research cost:$2000

Design:
None this year.

Production:
1 Redstone II (-$775)
1 SEA satellite (-$1000)
Production cost: $1775

Construction:
Rebuild Dr Smith's labratory (-$5000)
Construction cost: $5000

Launch:
Launch a SEA satellite into medium earth orbit using a Redstone II, with the same research objective as the first SEA mission.

Other:
Announce that ASTRO will send a probe past the moon to take pictures of its far side in the next 3 years.
Trade my improved fuel for CASP's improved fuel tanks.

Total cost:$2000+$1775+$5000= $8775

I've made a few changes to my turn. Most notable is my Chinese space station in a decade announcement.

After this, I intend to slow down on the press conferences. It's rather silly to try to squeeze prestige for launching a guy into space when I'm a few years away from keeping a guy in space, especially when I'm the richest player. Plus, there's probably a harsh soft cap to prevent abusing that ability.

How will space station upkeep work? Successfully launch X kg of supplies/person into orbit (and dock) per year?

Well, I am up for a limited exchange of technical, scientific and logistical assistance, but no "immediately sharing all technology" deals like the one you have with Austria.
