What happened to my funding from last turn?  I had had 15k in the bank to cover those 12k expenses.

Do we need to build anything to design/build rockets of greater than 10m?  I know you need to upgrade the launchpad to launch them.

Also, not quite sure I understand on the two-stage rocket.  Can I use existing technology for it or do I need to research something extra?
Oh dear, seems like I made a mistake in fixing the mistakes, gimme a moment.

The manufactory produces 10 m of rocket a year. Upgrading increses it to 20
As soon as you have a 2 stage hull you're fine. Note, divide your rocket in 2 stages then.

Oh, right, I forgot about partial successes for technology, and thought nothing was ready yet. I'll need to rethink my research.

Is it possible to mix hull types (Say, have a second stage hull for an engine base, that launches the single-stage hull)?
Yes.

Please double check my design- I may have boffed the numbers.

Urist glowed as he put the framed Spear blueprints on his office wall.  They were truly a work of art!

On a more serious note, he finally had a rocket capable of fulfilling the last wish of the founder, Hugh DeWard.  A ceremony was planned to coincide with the launch of the Spear Mk I.  The urn containing his ashes had been placed in the open space of the rocket, which would then travel to low Earth orbit, fulfilling his wish to travel to space.  This would give him the honor of being the first man in space- if posthumously.

That planned, he turned to work on his next design.  The life support module had horrible requirements, but with improvements to fuel and some weight reduction, he may be able to get it into space.   Facility expansion was required.

Research:
Continue to improve our rocket fuel to increase our thrust.

Life Support Module:  Make that elephant lighter.

Two-Stage Hull:  Let's get something that can launch said elephant.

Designs:
[Personal Design]
The Sword Mk I
Height: 7m
Weight:  1375kg
Available Payload: 125kg
Thrust:  1500kg to LEO (105%)

Components:
Single stage hull (7 meter): 75*10-> 525kg
Small thruster (1 meter): 100kg, 1500kg To LEO
Normal fuel tanks x6 (6 meter): 750kg

Building:
Upgrade the factory to the next level.

Other:
Put the ashes of the company founder in that empty spot of the Spear, and ceremoniously launch it into space.

Total expenses:

8k  (3x 1k for research, 5k for building)

Um, your engine has a maximum of fuel it can burn at once, ie 1000. Also, I already factored the fuel upgrade in, .

I have a few questions regarding multi-stage rockets. Firstly, how tall can I make my 2 stage rockets with my current tech level? Secondly, is it possible to have the first stage only reach LEO, so that the extra thrust to get higher only needs to be spent on the weight of the second stage?(I think this is the entire purpose of staging, but I just want to be sure). Anyhow, my third turn:

Research:
Dr Smith will attempt to reduce the weight of the satellite, now dubbed the Explorer.

Design:
None this year.

Manufacturing:
Build another Redstone I (-$650)

Construction:
Restore the launchpad to complete functionality (-$1000)

Launch:
Launch a Redstone I test flight.(and have the technicians be more careful this time)

Other:
Give a statement on the recent tragedy at ASTRO. Say that while the loss of human life is regrettable, the fact that space exploration is a completely new field of human endeavor means that there is a risk of loss of life, but that ASTRO will take measures to protect the people working for it (actually, can I invest money into making the launch stage of missions safer or at least prevent people from dying when a rocket explodes on the launchpad?).

Total Cost: $1650

Sorry, I have to take a stop from bay12 for a moment. Atleast spend less time here and sort out some private issues. So I have to windraw from the game. To bad, its awsume.

The explosion on the launch pad was simply a critical launching failure. Preventing explosions is easy.

Also, some notes on buildings. You can either upgrade it to be able to do more things at once

Lab: 1-->2-->3-->4-->...
Launch:10m-->20m--->30m-->...
Rocket factory:10m-->20m-->40m-->...(amount of rocket produced per year)
Control center:1-->2-->4-->...(Missions per year)

Or to give a bonus to research. Upgrading things for bonusses cost 5000 at first level, 10000 at second 20000 at third.

@ Rulerofnothing. 20 meter, should have noted that. Yes, in fact , that's the entire point of the thingy.

Could I join this somehow as a minor player?

I tried a game like this a while back but had to stop because of college grrrrr. Obviously I love the idea :D

Depends on what you mean with minor player. There are 3 spots open at the moment, as Evil Maharadja has resigned.

You can just write up your sheet(see first post) and choose a nation( that hasn't been taken yet) and you're ready to go.

The Thrust your engine produces increases the more fuel you put in it. There's a cap on the maximum amount of fuel you can give it, and that cap is 1000. If you give the engine more than 1000 fuel it won't use it.

You can upgrade your engine to burn more though. Or simply make a new one.
