@ Nirur: If you're researching a part upgrade, you're rockets will be autoupgraded. It's only when you're creating an entirely new part that you need to redesign your rocket.
In that case, I changed my turn, and am now borrowing Toaster's design.

Well, I think I may join.

Player Name: Dr James Smith
Archetype: Scientist
Funds: 10,000
Organisation Name: American Space Technology and Research Organisation (ASTRO)
Motto: Exploring space for the greater good of mankind.
Nation: USA
Spoiler: Researched Components (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Designs (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Assets (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Special People (click to show/hide)

Is this good? Actually, for my turn, is it possible to improve one aspect of a component at the expense of another aspect to get a better result for the first one? That is, if I want to improve the reliability of my rocket motor, am I allowed to expedite this by reducing its power?

Damn you, industrial espionage!

Also, you might want to submit a provisional turn, so if you're approved, you can get on with the game.

Yes, you can do that. And yes your sheet is good. However, lowering one aspect of a component to increase another aspect does not count as an upgrade, but delivers and entirely component.(That means that rockets using the original component won't be autoupgraded)

Your engineer will give you +40 to hull research.

@ Ghazkull: Care to give any more information about those medium thrusters?
Also, since your archetype is not Engineer, you have to pay 2000 for each rocket design.

The same thing counts for Nirur Torin.

uhm the two designs you mentioned at the beginning are those already available? Or do i have to pay for them anyway? Becuase that design is just the larger one of the two...

I think 10ebbor10 was just giving some examples of rocket designs. Also, here is my turn (without fluff for the moment):

Research
Dr Smith will research a new type of of small thruster, the Small Thruster-M, which is different from the normal Small Thruster in that it is 25kg more massive. It will also be designed to be as reliable as possible. The as-of-yet unnamed German structural engineer will head a project to reduce the mass of the single stage hull.

Design
Design work will be put on hold while the Small Thruster-M is being developed.

Construction
Expand the laboratory so that two research projects can be run concurrently.

Expenses: $5000 due to construction, $1000 due to research, $6000 total.

Yup, that were just some example designs. You will need to pay for them if you want to use them.
Also, some explanations on the scientist and engineer archetype.
These types give you respectively 1 free research and 1 free design action. On top of that you can do 1 extra paid for design, research action( or more, depending on your research/design buildings.)

Building:
And extra story is added to the rocket manufactory. Adding a third one will cost 10000 dollar

ASTRO Yearly report

Research
Your research is a complete failure. You thought everything was going wel until the prototype rocket explode, setting part of the lab on fire. Luckily there wasn't to much damage and you escaped uninjured.(Really, only your research bonus saved you from a critfail)

The germans research makes some fricking large progress. He manages to reduce the weight of the single stage hull by more then 10 kg per meter.

Design
Nothing new here
Construction
An extra floor is added to the labaratory. Adding a third floor will cost 10.000(Those elevators are fricking expensive)

Special event: Some press guys tried to bring our organization into discredit, but it failed.

Expenses: $5000 due to construction, $1000 due to research, $6000 total.

C.H.A.S.E. Yearly report

Research:
Research progresses well. A good effort is made in the stabilization of the thrusters

Design -$2425
The design of the rocket was rubbish until the german showed up. Sadly it's nowhere near where it should be.
'Flare' class test rocket
Height: 5m
Weight: 975 kg
Thrust: 1000 kg to Leo
Available Payload: 25 kg

Components:
Single stage hull (5 meter): 75*5-> 375kg
Small thruster (1 meter): 100kg, 1000kg To LEO
Small fuel tanks x4 (4 meter): 500kg

Construction
An extra floor is added to the labaratory. Adding a third floor will cost 10.000(Those elevators are fricking expensive)

Other:

The press conference is a complete failure. Most of the press got lost on their way here, and the one that did manage to arrive fell over a cable and broke his leg.( Really, you rolled a 1. Count yourself lucky you hadn't any prestige to begin with)

Special event: Nothing happened

Total expenses: -$9425

Special event: Nothing happened

Total expenses:
6500 monetary units (5k building + 1K research)

DWARF Yearly report.

Research:

Research progress extremely fast.

Designs:
Research on The Squat does not progress wel, and the inferior design almost ruins the new progress made in thruster technology

That's quite the significant improvement on hull weight there. Also a few questions: what does the number in the braces after some components mean, is it possible to combine multiple research teams and if so what effect does this have?

It means nothing( It's a number I use for calculating stuff). Also yes, the improvement is fricking large. You almost maxed out your roll.
No , you cannot have two research teams research the same subject.
