Explosives.
So I take you use my reworked version of your design then ? Also, payload are switchable.

Yeah. I'm going to work on rockets that can go into orbit, then strike any target.

I don't believe the basic rocket hull can survive atmospheric reentry.

10ebbor10, is there any problem with my proposed mission? I am just wondering because you say that the Redstone II's payload capacity for OoO launches is 374kg, but my calculations show that it can launch 469kg OoO.

I'm getting a 345kg payload with the Redstone II, both with my own calculations and with my spreadsheet.

It's worth noting that the stage 1 weight is listed at 863kg, but actually 1001.

W1 = 1001, W2 = 1034, T1 = 1442, T2 = 1923

1442 / (2 * (1001 + 1034 + 345)) + 1923 / (2 * (1034 + 345)) - 1
1442/4760 + 1923/2758 - 1
0.3029 + 0.6972 - 1

Well, my calculation was assuming that the OoO weight penalty only applied to the second stage, which I believe 10ebbor10 confirmed.

Rockets don't survive orbital reentry. Nor do bombs survive vacuum. Unless specifically designed like that.

Confirmed that one. 345.72 to be exact.

Did I say that? I'm not quite sure. The first page rules say something else, so I'm going to check.

That doesn't make sense to me. You're trying to go X distance. LEO is 1, and OoO is 2. Doubling the weight is an easy way to show in the calculations that the rockets need to do twice the amount of work.

Well, I found some caculations for one of Toasters rockets.

I'm going to reverse engineer to find out what rules I used then and canonize those.

The whole point of a staging system is that you can throw away empty fuel containers, so if the weight penalty applied to the first stage there would be little point to a staging system. Also, I asked this question here and 10ebbor10 said that the weight penalties only applied to the second stage (this was mostly because at that time the weight penalty for Earth orbits applied to both the payload and launch system for single stage rockets).

And now , I got a problem.

Seems like I used the weight penalty applies for everything with Toaster.
I did say something else then.

Rule system 1: ( Weight applies to everything)
-  Easy to calculate
- That seems to be the way I calculated everything before.

Rule system 2:
- HArder to calculate
- Seems to be the way I said it was

Note to self: Be more consequent

Now I have absolutely no idea what to do.

Rule 2 is the staging system one, right?

I personally would rather go with that.

Right now I'm wondering if it would be feasible to say that I would try to get a moon landing by the real Apollo 11 date.

What? You said the +10% weight penalty for stabilizing orbits only applies to payloads. It's easy to calculate, as you just divide the maximum possible payload for reaching the orbit by 1.1.

The weight penalty for more distant orbits not affecting initial stages makes no sense, and I don't think you ever said anything about that.

What was said was that initial stages break off and don't weigh down the later stages.
