Well, according to my calculations I will be able to send up to 167kg of payload on a lunar flyby with the Redstone II once I reach the maximum I can wring out of my fuel and small thruster (since those will reach 125% power and 2.25 kg to LEO per kg fuel respectively). I am also curious as to what other kinds of products we can sell for money (and what would happen to Nirur Torir's income from solar cells if someone else moved into the market).
I was just checking the current rockets, and not what would happen with the fully upgraded ones.
Currently nothing. He just selling them in China for now, a place where other players can't set up shop immediatly.

Fair enough. Could I make super-batteries or something to sell to my commercial sector?

You can do that. You can do anything you do commercialising research for.

CHASE

Xin Su sat alone in his office, staring at a paper clutched in his hand. His lunch sat nearby, untouched and long grown cold. Trees cast evening shadows outside his office window.

[....] All tests confirm [....] likely a recent development [....] infertility [....]

Urist fumes as he paces in his office.  The mockery!  The scorn!

"They think it can't be done?  I'll show them!  I'll show them ALL!" as he slams his fist into the desk.

A nervous tech peers in to his office.  "Uhh... sir?  The R&D group is waiting for their next projects."

Urist sighs.  "Right, right.  Schedule a meeting for 8 AM sharp tomorrow morning.  I'll have all they need then."  The tech scurries off.

Research:
Continue into solid fuel- working on stabilization.

Life Support Module:  Continue to redesign it to support larger beings.

Large Thruster:  We must reduce the explosion risk, no matter the cost.

Designs:
Even though it's no cost, I really can't come up with any more designs- there's not much point without swank new components.

Building:
Update the labs with new computer systems to enhance research.  I'm thinking something that just adds a bonus to performed research without actually allowing more research rolls.  I'm guessing such a thing would run me 5k, but tell me if I am incorrect.

Other:
Practice my maniacal laugh.  The tech was not suitable awed.

Expenses- 9k (4k research + 5k building)

Goddamn it >.< I'm used to Faust being the God of thrusters.

How is this difficult? All they need to do is to put something that explodes on impact into the nose cone of a rocket. Argh! Dr Faust is as exemplary as ever though. So at least my team isn't a complete failure. Although the Generalissimo has turned to others for a method of combating the rebels...

Research
-Dr Faust continues lightening the thrusters, aiming specifically for 64kg or less
-The explosives team try again. Third time lucky maybe?
Construction
Build 4 'Mano de Ayuda's and the first 2 meters of an 'El Parajo Cantor II'
Other
Retire the El Abejorro design, and the 'El Perajo Cantor I' design

Expenses:
5150 (3k thrusters, 1k explosives, 1k boosters, 150 rocket)

Designs: Design a one meter fuel tank for use.
I don't get what you're trying to accomplish with that. Designs are made for entire rockets at a time. While you can do Spaceshuttle like external tanks, that needs additionall research. Thinking wherether or not to add that to booster or making it a seperate tech.

W.A.T. Yearly report

Research:
Continue Research on Nuclear Fission, especially as use for warheads and thrusters (Secret Weapons Scientist). Research progresses well, and much progress is made.

Develop Kerosene as a fuel (Fuel Scientist). Research here doesn't go very fast. The fuel is still inferior to the current one, but your scientist is certain he can increase the capacity a lot if given more time.

Production:
Construct More Regained II
with appropriate warheads

Other:
Sell Rockets to the Spanish Government
You manage to sell all your rockets to the Spanish for 5100.

Announce our Research on Nuclear Fission for Economic and Space-Faring use
Seeing as Western Germany didn't have a research center for nuclear science before, the governement increase your responsibilites to include it. They also grant you extra funds
+4 Prestige( That was a good roll)

Try to obtain Uranium.
The Governement manages to secure a small supply of uranium for you. You do need to give the used material back though, and can only obtain small quantities.

Other: A spy is caught while he attempted to steal plans for the Warheads. After a long interrogation he acknowledges to be sent by Austria.

Total cost: $5050 (2000 Research + 1050 Rockets+2000 Warheads)

ASTRO Yearly report

Research:
Dr Smith will develop a life support module (free). A loud explosion rips trough the lab. The fire rapidly spreads and soon a large part of the building is covered in flames. Several people die that day. You get away, though with severe burn wounds. The damage to the lab is enormous.( Repair costs, 5000).
Lab 1 will continue work on fuel power.(-$1000) Work here doesn't go very fast.
Lab 2 will continue work on the efficiency of the small thruster.(-$2000). The thruster team makes serious progress though and manages to perfect the Thruster.

Retire the El Abejorro design, and the 'El Perajo Cantor I' design

Expenses:
5150 (3k thrusters, 1k explosives, 1k boosters, 150 rocket)

The war continous escalating. Even with the Russian aid, the rebels still manage to gain terretory. At least, untill 2 missile strikes blew up their main bases. A single rocket was returned, but it seems the rebels are running out of supplies. Russian tanks and Spanish soldiers have captured one of the entrance paths and are securing resources. The general had a present for you though. One of the rockets they tested on the rebels earlier. He wants you to find out how to make more of them.

DWARF Yearly report.

Research:
Continue into solid fuel- working on stabilization. Work on solid fuel progress extremely fast.

Just to confirm, I've got two turns left on my promise, correct?

Also, life support modules are cursed to explode when you first research them.

Yes, you still have two turns.

Also, I have no idea why those things are so volatile. They heve exactly the same explosion chance as all other things.

If I spend a decade training astronauts, I'm not going to want a 10%-19% explosion chance every time they go into space. How will pre-flight rocket checks work? Just a launchpad upgrade? Research and then a launchpad upgrade? Some sort of cost per launch for extra testing?

Is it possible to use conditionals for multiple launches per turn? I want to launch a second satellite, but only if the first launch fails.

No pre-flight rocket checks. They are supposed to be included in the roll ( Ie explosion means they didn't test properly)
You can upgrade the launchpad to give a bonus to launches.
You can also , research and build emergency rockets( Just a tiny rocket they put on top that saves the payload if the rocket explodes).

For something as simple as that yes.

CHASE

The director of CHASE had had a listless year, and his worried assistant had taken up much of his slack. Although competent, the man lacked vision, and would make a poor replacement. Lacking any chance of a child of his own, Xin Su decided to stop brooding and start looking elsewhere for an heir to CHASE directorship. He would first look towards various Chinese universities, mostly giving speeches and inviting a select few classes to view the satellite launch.

Research:
Lab 1st floor: Improve lifetime of solar cells ($2000)
Lab 2nd floor: All-around improvements to the reusable single stage hull. ($1000)

Design & Production
Build a second Expedition rocket.($750)

Construction
Upgrade laboratory to three projects/year. ($10,000)

Missions:
Use Expedition rockets to get a solar powered satellite into stable LEO. Only use the second if the first fails. ($1500-$3000 )

Other:
Press conferences, including invites to top university classes. ($3000)
Improve prestige from my first launch of the year.
Anti-espionage security guards. ($1000)

Total expenses: $19,250-$20,750
