Dorfs not making Pig Iron?

Yep, basically what the title says; I'm working at a magma smelter, have access to marble and like two or three other flux stones, and have about 30 bars of coke available, as well as a dozen iron bars from melted down goblinite, yet the smelter keeps insisting I need fuel. Despite the fact that the smelter has access to magma.

That's because you still need fuel to make pig iron. It represents the extra carbon that needs to be introduced to iron in the real world process of steel making. Build a woodburners workshop and tell it to produce some charcoal.

Is the magma under the smelter deep enough? I think you need at least 3/7 to power a magma shop.
Do you have a path to your bars stockpile?

Are you smelters or the coke in a burrow?
There is some bug with smelter in burrow not seeing reagents.

Both the stockpile and the smelter are in the same burrow. Should I take them both out.

This seems to be a rather common bug. Use the manager to order some pig iron to be made. Alternatively you can deconstruct and rebuild the smelters.

I had a similar problem. Removing the burrow helped. Also check that the smelter itself isn't forbidden. This can happen if you mess with the 'forbidden' settings for stones in the stocks menu, since most workshops are built from stone. Forbid all pieces of one type of stone -> all workshops made from it will get forbidden.
