Hivemind-Let's Slither some more.
« on: February 06, 2012, 10:26:40 am »

Old topic of Hivemind:
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=92426.0

I decided to start again, straight from where the last game was left, but with an easier set of rules, to make things better/easier/more flexible.

First off though, a Recap:

CASTES:
WORKER= costs 1 filaments to create from a batch of eggs.
GATHERER= Stronger worker version, it can fight off ants. costs 1 filament and 1 food to create
SLAVE=non-acid GUARD, 6 cm armoured, 0.001 strength
SCOUT= acidic, non armoured, costs 1 filament and 1 food.
ACID-GUARD/PRAETORIAN= costs 13 food and 6 filaments, 6 cm of acid-spitting, acid exploding goody
OVERSEER= 6 energy 4 food 6 filaments. You need someone to control many? call this guy 0.001 mental.
PLANTSPAWN= oh looky there, FLOWERS. generate energy and random food.

Chain of Command as of last time:

Hivemind :everything beneath that is not after the =
1 Overseer called "Overseer Primant"=10 Fool
1 overseer called Zweiant =5 gatherers
4 Vanguard/Acid Guard=one is a rearranged slave "veteran" 10 cm width and 9. something tall
1 Slave "Veteran"=1 meter width 1 cm tall
2 Glander
0 Gatherer
6 Fool
0 scout
2 hivespawn (advanced)

Status External:
SPHERE PERIMETER:81.5 CM which can be armoured at 8 food cost. (N° of filaments would be 163+48=211
SPHERE THICKNESS: 1 cm
Powers:
Acid Spit= Spit away at the enemies!
Hive Grass= for one tendril, you spit a fast growing grass, which increases your energy obtained by plantspawns in the area by 3X
Hive roots= for one tendril, you spit roots which increase food earnings
Capacities:
natural bouyance + ant like wings= you can flyyyyy...10 cm from the ground.
roots=every day, at the end of the day, you earn 10 food. (mobile mediocre)
acid blood= wounding you is like begging for an acid shower.
acid immune=immune to acid
Stomach (acidic-mediocre)=6 food for 2 energy (at will), once a day (forced)=18 food for 9 energy
Pouch (rudimentary)=can store up to three units of food for later use.
Complete Rock-like armour: No longer filaments, but you do need to "activate it" by spending one food for 10 filaments.
Mouth (rudimentary): a bonus in filaments while eating organic materials.
hibernations protocol (rudimentary): you kill-switch everything useless until you feel something worth eating.
Cosmetical change: you know look like a long chain of small segments each very similar to an entire ant. each about 1 cm of diameter sphere.
2 spiked tendrils= you have two spiked tendrils, or leashes, or what you want to call them. they are 3:1 scale, so they are 120 cm, or one meter and 20 cm.
Defenses:None
Energy Storage:6
Food Storage:19
movement Type:Ant-like Normal
Sensors: Vibration (you feel vibrations through the earth)-air waves-chemicals
mole-like eyes= dark or bright, you understand.

Internal status:
Mental: 0.0145
Physical: 0.0010
Number of cellular filaments acquired thus far: 32+36=68+20=88+12=100
number of specialized Cells: 48 of which 12 are needed for full body armour, 4 are the mouth. 1 in the acid pouch, 12 are stomach, 2 are pouch, 1 in the acid stomach, 6 in egg sac (internal), 4 in filament assembler, 6 in bouyance and wings.
Feeding way: Mouth (rudimentary) = Bonus in filaments in eating organic.
Roots (mediocre)=processing food through the soil? eco friendly! and hive-friendly! 10 food a day-end!
Egg sac (internal): you produce eggs by spending 2 energy and 1 filaments. You fertilize the egg by spending 1 extra filament.
Fool=1 filaments
Gatherer=1 filament 1 food
scout=2 filament 1 food
glander= (cost to create) 1 food 1 tendril
overseer= cost to create 6 energy 4 food 4 tendrils
Vanguard/acidguard = cost to create 13 food 7 tendrils
plantspawn=5 tendrils, produces 1 energy per day and has small blades. not quite a nice defense against anything bigger than insects...still...random food.
filament assembler:30 food for 1 filament
heartful: You produce "THE CREEP" (or Name to be chosen)
fatherly:you have spiked leashes

The difference are as follows:
each filament makes the Hivemind 1cm*2 higher or wider. you decide. at the moment it's a 163 cm*2 panel which has been rendered spheric as a 81.5 cm*3 sphere.

Filaments are earned as follow:
0.5 for small insects.
10 for colonies of insects, no matter how big or small.
small mammals net 25 filaments
small reptiles net 30 filaments
medium mammals net 75 filaments.
medium reptile net 80 filaments
big mammals net 100 filaments
big reptiles net 110 filaments.
enormous mammals net 150 filaments
Human beings net 300 filaments due to their specialization, difficulty in catching, risk of alerting others of the species.

"Power ups"/specializations cost a maximum of *number filament earned from creature* X10 divided into three various degrees.
So an ant legs maximum cost is 5, which me (the narrator/master/writer of events) can divide between 2 for the "low" degree, 1 for the average and 2 for the "superior". each giving a -1, +0, or +1 bonus in rolls. (only going to roll a 1d4 dice when needed)

Perks are randomly decided by me and happen depending on certain situations (to say, perks are heartful, fatherly)

"Combos" are limited to simply what the players suggest and what you have already faced. No electric organical zap-shot until you have been hurt by electricity, to say the least.

Food is the double of what the filaments are earned. so if you earn 15 filaments, you earn 30 food.
Energy is produced by being in a heated environment (which gives the minimum of one) to burning food into the stomach.

As a rule you may not have more specialized cells than non specialized cells. so, since you are 163 cm*2 wide/high your total of specialized cells may not go above this number. You have 48 specialized cells, so you're fine.

Each 0.0001 gives you one more underling you may control.

Each specialized cell, plus mental plus physical costs one food by the end of the day. so as of the last update of the previous topic:

you end up with 19 food.

...but food here is getting scarce...

and your group of hunters hasn't reported back yet...

The new update following the last seasons decision for the poll was:

to harness the channels
You suddenly pop up a small thin and extremely sensible antennae. One more doesn't kind of make a difference, but then...you are bombarded by words...
I'm coming home honey
see you later then
fine by me
hey baby i'm going to miss you so much when i get home
your wife still hasn't signed the divorce papers?
no.
sigh, ridge you're too old to stay with that blond duck!
but roxanne, i can't leave my twentyseven kids of which thirteen are not mine to her!
ridge! i don't care! leave her or i'm going to commit suicide!
fine my love! i will, i swear!

Internal status (change from previous):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Last location known:
you are "floating" yet attached by your roots to the earth, in a small underground chamber of your own creation. Camouflaged by your first overseer. You have a group of hunters out in the wilderness who haven't reported back yet. Near you there is, but not that you know it, a highway from which the van of the secret lab organization had an accident, releasing you into the world.

The group of hunters is made of:
the 4 four vanguards/acid guards and the big slave.
They have yet to report back.

you have 12 eggs inside of you to fertilize yet.

Unspecialized filaments: 163. Of which 49 are reserved for the 48 specialized cells.
So you only have 163-49 filaments=114 filaments able to be used.

Disregard the previous costs i made the hivemind pay, we start fresh with the new rules for costs.
Disregard from the previous topic the actions/simplification. We keep things as they are for now.

so...actions?

Make more Praetorian guard.  They shall be the main captains of your new army, leading even more numerous slaves ( the non-acidic guys, right? )

OOh! This is back! :D

yes it is.

Make more Praetorian guard.  They shall be the main captains of your new army, leading even more numerous slaves ( the non-acidic guys, right? )

you know that praetorians have no intellect, (overseers have them) so you'd also need to give them overseers? and praetorians cost 13 food and 7 tendrils
since you are currently at 19 food. 6 energy and

edit:
it's the slave the one you're referring to, a non acid guard. it costs 1 food 1 tendril (it's mixed with the Glander name)

 114 filaments.
you risk ending malnourished.
daily you consume something like...
211 food.
while you net from the various things in your body:
Hive roots on top of normal roots=3X10=30.
hive grass=6 energy
the only thing is that your groups of hunters manage to bring you back food, but if they get short or unlucky one day you'll suffer hunger.
which basically shuts down your brain, completely, until you're restored.
remember there is the energy consume option to have ideas(tutorials).

Increase those antennaes' power. Also yes for more plantspawn. Maybe create a second group to look after the first, but not before having equiped them with pheromons so that we can easily track them.

Make another plantspawn then wait for more food.
-5 tendrils +1 energy

You make another plantspawn. Never enough energy around this part of the woods.
After a while though you start pondering about bettering that new antennae's...

-30 tendrils

With the Advanced Radio Antennae you may now intercept mid-range radio. And filter the one you care for... Now if only you knew what language they are speaking.

we're all on this togetheerrr
OH MY GOD WE ARE GOING TO DIEEEEE
save me captain america!
somebody stay calm!
will the real slim shady, please stand up, please stand up?

you're kind of thinking not to learn it though...

Increase those antennaes' power. Also yes for more plantspawn. Maybe create a second group to look after the first, but not before having equiped them with pheromons so that we can easily track them.

You deem appropriate fertilizing two eggs for scouts.
-2 filaments -2 food
-2 unfertilized eggs

Those tiny fast critters will do a nice job. Directly under your control.
They scurry out.

Soon you receive a sitrep from one of them through the air:
Rests found. Torn apart. Cut in two. Big vibrations. Fast. Hel...

Set out as many workers as possible to gather more food.

We're gonna need more food ( some of which will be remade into filaments ) to expand.

Set out as many workers as possible to gather more food.

We're gonna need more food ( some of which will be remade into filaments ) to expand.

the last nine unfertilized eggs are fertilized...
-9 filaments
into 9 workers!
which scurry off under your command.

That's when your first overseer comes back. Yummie squirrel was caught after a fierce battle.
25 filaments 50 food
your ant pheromones attract another beeline of ants
10 filaments 20 food
your hive roots by the end of the day provide you with
80 food
your hivespawns
12 energy and *lucky roll* 30 filaments and 60 food it seems a small group of geckos tried to climb your flowers or eat them...poor things were eaten instead.
Total:
+12 energy+210 food+65 filaments
Costs:
155+48=203
You end up, lucky, at +7 food for the day.

Size:
your size has increased more. 65 cm*2 distributed how you wish.

It is now night...
