Evening out fluids to stop FPS lag.

Hi guys, I need some advice on another big FPS killing issue. Flowing water causes lag, and I wish to tap into the cavern water for it. However, whenever I do that, the water unevens out, and creates a neverending amount of flow. What can I do to even out the water? If the water is connected to the side of the map, will it refill?

Same predicament for magma pumping  :-\

It has to be naturally connected to the edge underwater.  A dug connection to the edge won't do it.

With magma, if you can find a small, edge-connection spot on the top of your magma sea dig into that.  If it has SMR under it, even better.

It's my understanding that digging a connection to the edge isn't possible anyway, so it doesn't matter.

It is possible, actually.   One way is to smooth stone on the edge and carve fortifications, allowing the passage of fluids.

If done this way, what Vehedur says, and if you direct any fluid through said path, you will end up with a bottomless hole for the fluid going off map into the unknown.

Which means, you have a drain.
