my coins asploded!
« on: September 13, 2006, 04:08:00 pm »

Something very strange happened to my coins. Once my Mayor arrived (along with a trade minister and a couple other nobles) all my neat stacks of coins blew up and I had coins everywhere. They were on the floors in all the rooms and made the game virtually unplayable.

This may have been the dwarves taking individual coins and storing them in their rooms. Do they need coffers?

I noticed a similar thing when my economy started, the dwarves began hoarding coins in singles, or groups. Soon my metalsmithy was *CLT* with about 3 pages of single copper coins (which is funny because 2 stacks of 100 coins doesnt clutter it much).

I'm rather bothered by this too, I just spent 15 minutes and probably hurt my wrist trying to just get rid of the innumerable stacks of coins that have accumulated in my 4 or 5 year old fortress. Altogether probably about sixty pages of coins in stacks of less than 25.

I'm going to try giving everyone a coffer, but I really wish they'd just stack all this stuff more. At least, only have one stack of each type of coin that's owned by each dwarf.

Do excuse the thread necromancy, I just thought that since this was still the exact same issue I'm talking about, it'd be better to bring back the thread.

I ran into this.  The best I could come up with is to mark as many coins in the smithy as "tradable" when the caravans show up.  A lot of the coins are owned and just sit there.  But enough stacks will get pulled out to unclutter the place for a while.

One day I'll get desperate enough to break down the forge and rebuild it.

Doesn't it help to build a coin stockpile nearby?

It'll move the unowned coins out of the forge and then asplode there.

At least that doesn't clutter up the forge.

This is why you need to give your dwarves decent living spaces...

Dwarves just like coins! they are like red dragons, they sleep in big piles of em.

Seriously though, restacking is on the to-do list for Toady, and he undoubably has more plans for the economy of the fortresses.
