blinking blue military?
« on: February 05, 2012, 10:10:36 pm »

My military dwarves begin to blink blue one at a time while training.  It isn't thirst (which is an arrow) but the background of the sprite.  Its like they are wet, but their inventory doesn't show anything other than their gear.  The DF Hack cleaner which removes blood and stuff from dwarves does not stop them from blinking.  They continue to blink if turned into civilians and sent to go haul stone.   It doesn't have to do with wounds either.  What's up with the blinking?

See if they have any legendary skills? Legendary dwarves blink between bright and dark.

They sound like they've reached a legendary skill to me.

Right, well NOW my all kinds of legendary steel-encrusted squad are getting 'minor wound' yellow blinking icons, and the health page says they are Faint with purple flashing letters.  They ignore the fully stocked hospital just down the hall and continue with the drinking and sparing until they succumb to infection.  Removing them from military duty doesn't seem to stop them from sparring and ignoring their apparently deadly fainting condition.  How do i keep my military from dying?

Cause a small cave in near them to knock them out. They should get carried off to the hospital. However I am suspecting a FB syndrome to be at work here.

There is a forgotten beast mulling about down in the caverns, but i haven't gone anywhere near it.  furthermore, the faint condition is only happening to the 4 of the 10 military dwarves so far.  I bet if i keep them training more of them will get sick.

If they have a syndrome of some sort, you are probably screwed.  Unless they are rendered unconscious, once they reach a certain skill level, military dorfs don't seem to like going to the hospital.  I had a Legendary axedorf lose an entire arm in a siege just recently.  Did he go to the hospital?  No.  He went back to individual combat practice, then bled out.  I also had a FB with a syndrome that, fortunately, only caused temporary dizziness and fever.  Military dorfs that came down with the syndrome just went back to practice, ignoring their symptoms.  Civilian dorfs would report to the hospital however.

The only way to entirely remove a legendary dorf from the military is to remove them from their squad, or disband the squad entirely.  Just putting them on inactive won't make them stop training once they hit a certain skill level in one or more of their military skills.  Once that happens they should go to the hospital.  Again, just recently, one of my best marksdwarves got pincushioned with a half dozen goblin arrows during a siege.  He refused to leave the barracks until I removed him from the squad entirely.  Then he reported to the hospital and, after months of surgery and rehab, got back on his feet and functional.  At which point I drafted him again.

I don't understand, though that is about right with anything DF related.
I just hope he dies the same death that all dwarfs deserve: liver disease.

removing a faint dwarf from his squad doesn't help.  He returned his gear to the stockpiles and has been hanging about (because he has no labors turned on) slowly getting worse and not going to the hospital.  Now he is pale.

I recruited a random naked mook and beat on him with training weapons until he had some wounds and sure enough he ran off to the hospital and got manhandled by my unskilled medics.  So the hospital totally works, i just need to get him to go to it.  I'll try beating him within an inch of his life...

Sounds to me like they were wounded in the past and have infections. Does your hospital have soap? Forgotten beast syndromes don't cause "infection", but uncleaned wounds DO. Infection also causes "Faint" or "Pale" to appear.

They've been training up their skills in the danger room, so they all have some cuts and scratches, and newly recruited mooks who get thrown into the danger room unarmored quickly abandon their posts and go sleep in the hospital.  I've watched them get cleaned with my soap and sutured and whatnot.  My medics are pretty bad but they get the job done though trial and error.

The legendary warriors though don't go to the hospital for scratches it seems.  I got one of the sick ones stabbed in the head by an upright steel spear trap, and he high tailed it to the hospital.  There, he got diagnosed with severe head stabby and they cleaned and bandaged him, then he ran off to go mull about in the dining room and die from the 'pale' status that the hospital ignored or he ran away too quick to fix it.

It could easily be the case that the danger room is causing wounds that get infected early in the training process, and they get to be legendary warriors before they get infected, but if this is the case, how do i get them to go get the little wounds treated?  should they train for a month and then delete the squad?
