With Lt.Ward...
Ian allows himself to be steadied by the combined efforts of Wesley and Lieara. "Aye...yeah..." he mumbles in response, perhaps to both of you at once, "but by Apellius...that man's scarier'n I e'er though' the undead'd be..."
The Lieutenant turned away from this, looking to D'zelik. He opened his mouth as if to say something, and then immediately thought better of it. After an awkward moment of silence, he slapped his open hands on his thighs. "Alright then! Uh...I should probably see you all properly outfitted, first. Then it's off to drop your stuff at the barracks, and if we've got enough time we'll get a quick tour in...or somethin'. Normally there'd be some proper training, but, uh...we don't really have time for that anymore."
With that, the Lieutenant turns and begins to set off into the village itself.
With Captain Flint...
"Figures that you'd come alone, Tel'hal." Flint grumbles as he stalks through the town. Despite the deadly silence that has fallen over this village, there are still several children out playing in the street: They scatter as your group approaches, disappearing into backyards and doorways. "We'll be inspecting the walls now," explains after a brief moment, "normally I'd do it myself, but the tops like a show."
For Both Groups...
As you enter the village proper, it quickly becomes evident that this place was once a farming village, perhaps some sort of agricultural center for this portion of the region. Large wooden buildings, primarily utilizing the post-and-lintel style, are erected here and there along the street. Both groups pass by a smithy, though it has long since been taken over by a group of Arkrosian soldiers, a butcher's shop, which is closed, and even a small farm or two despite the limited spacing.
Lieutenant Ward comes to a stop in what you can only assume to be the dead center of the village itself, though compared to the rest of the village this place is very much alive. A group of 5 or 6 human children, ranging from as young as four years to as old as eight by your estimates, have gathered about to play on the porch of the local Tavern. Seated nearby, beneath the Tavern's creaking sign, is a human man with a large, thick beard. He hardly glances up at your group, his eyes set on the objects in his hand: A knife, and a block of wood which he is steadily whittling into a horse.
"Ah...just hold on a moment. Cooper, and um...Young, you help me carry stuff. The rest of you wait out here." Lieutenant Ward orders, before heading off to the General Store situated across from the tavern.
As this happens, Captain Finch and the group accompanying him approach a rough palisade at the northern side of town. It is clear from just one glance that it has been erected in haste, and is liable to fall apart at any moment without proper vigilance. Several tents have been put up near the Palisade, and beside one, under which Finch can be seen fussing about, a massive fire has been lit. It is only as you get closer that it becomes clear that this fire has been kindled with corpses, adding to the stench of burnt flesh that has come to fill Oakrest.
"Alright. You're less interested in what's beyond the wall, so much as the wall itself." Flint explains as you walk along, "We're looking for anything that might be a security hazard."
