"You can help me by minding your own damned business." Wesley spoke, his mouth moving for the first time in hours, his eyes piercing through the glass as he kept his head in place.

Leiara was taken aback, well, at least there was one man who knew his own privacy.

Having nothing else to say, and partly grateful that others were still open to talk, she relaxed and laid back on her seat, tapping the wolf-head pommel of her sheathed blades in a rhythmic manner, returning his gaze to the passing countryside and conscious yet again of the bumpy road.

This started out a fine day, to say the least.

Fibleck walked over to the gloomy man, and started to sing badly "Always loooook on the briiiight siiIIiide of Liiiiiife."

He slapped him on the back, "Cheer up laddie, ye could be a zombie right now, and ye ain't!"

Wesley turned to the dwarf, smiling one of his trademark smiles and said,"Your right!  I'm only, as you know, being sent to the front lines with a stick that shoots little metal balls at things that feel no pain, don't bleed out, and can only be permanently put to rest by setting them a blaze, GUESS I'M LUCKY, Yippity fucking yay! His face instantly returned to it's melancholy state, he looked around at the other idiots in the coach before returning his forehead to the glass.

[CompletelyMissingtheSarcasm]"Aye, ye are lucky, what could be more grand than to stand up against the horrible beasties that destroyed many a good Dwarf, ye be among the lucky few who were selected for this fine honor!  Me myself I'm glad they gave me the oppurtunity!"  He noticed that Wesley seemed to be looking out the window. "What be ye looking at?"

Where Finch's kick did not work, the conman's shouting did. The ruddy conscript slowly opened his eyes, blinking several times. As the realization of Wesley's words dawned on him, he blanched.

Finch staggered, placing a hand against the window to brace himself as the locomotive lurched to a halt. "Well, looks like we're 'ere...Best o' luck t'yeh all. Here's hopin' the next time I see you lot, it isn't in the fire-pits" the mustachio'd former-smith stated sullenly, pulling open the door with a great hefting movement. The rank scent of burning flesh and the woody smell of smoke and campfire immediately filled the cabin.

The Medic stepped out as other conscripts, fresh-faced and bright-eyed stepped from the other cars. Somewhere, several voices began to call out. The most audible came from a young man with close-cropped brown hair who stood nearest to your own car, reading from na unrolled scroll. "Regiment 86, Captain Tobias Flint. Line up in front of me! Scott Robinson, Fibleck Thorin, Edward Belrouse, Cooper Young, Wesley King, Sven Clackstin, Ian Farmer, D-...Duh...sellack Axel-roose, Soorak Tell-all, Lee-urrah Tell-during, and...well, the last one's me, so..."
He coughs, and rubs the back of his neck.

The red-faced conscript turns his wide, horrified eyes to the caller of Regiment 86 and grabs up his pack before shuffling towards the door. As he goes, he glances nervously to the rest of you, eyes settling on Wesley. "Uh...y-you didn't mean any o' that, right? Those're just rumors? A little joke?"

"Have ye been livin' under a rock?  How did ye not hear about the undead?
Don't worry though, you'll be fine so long as ye don't let 'em bite ye!
Or is that badgers? Or mosquitoes? Or maybe it's Elves? Or is it bricks?" He rambled on slowly becoming more quiet again.

"The last shred of my freedom" Wesley muttered as he lurched away from the window, cracking his back and picking up his rifle.  He didn't have much else besides the rotted cowhide they claim as armor.  He could still smell the tanning chemicals and feel bits of hair still stuck to it.  "They must really be in a rush" he thought, "That's a great sign".  The rest of his things had been "confiscated" as "evidence" when he was arrested.  Wesley sighs as he hears his name called.  The kid in front turned to him, scared shitless, asking if he was kidding.  "Lemme guess they told you that you'd be protecting your country by fighting foreign invaders, leaving out the fact that they're abominations of both science and religion.  Let me tell you something kid, you may be protecting your country, kingdom, whatever. But your more then likely going to die for it then actually save it." Wesley shuffled past him and stepped out of the coach.

Sarek quickly gathered his things and stepped off the coach enthusiastically. He walked up behind the young conscript patting him hard on the shoulder and smiling. "You all worry too much. I doubt any of you have fought these creatures yet." He shot a quick side-wards glance towards the dwarf before continuing. "So there is no point in assuming that we have no chance."

Stepping into line Sarek saluted the regiment caller after his name was announced, though he could not resist correcting him. "Apologies sir but that is S'a'rek Tel'H'al son of Uthrek Tel'H'al."

"Uh sorry reporting for duty sir."

D'zelik lifted his spear over his shoulder, gathered up the rest of his equipment, and walked out of the locomotive. Lining up with the others, and giving a displeased stare to the man responsible for the horrible mispronunciation of his name.

He then glanced over at his bad tempered colleague. D'zelik didn't appreciate having such conflict so early in the trip. They hadn't even had the chance to fight yet, and he already seemed determined to make enemies for himself within the group. D'zelik considered saying something to him, but figured, with an attitude like that, he would be dead before long anyway.

Leiara stopped tapping, she still felt like something was missing but pushed the thought away as she braced herself from the traction of the stopping locomotive. She pulled herself up and took what else belonged to her, casting one last glance at the whole thing before stepping out into the sun-lit ground. The scents she picked up were just as she expected; filled with death and decay. Nothing like the perk of danger to waken a bored soul.

"Are you coming along or are you content to sit there?" she said to the last one in the compartment with a smile before turning to the rest. "The undead won't fight themselves eh?"

She passed the red-haired conscript and whispered to him when the others were out of earshot. "Don't you worry your skin here. As long as we fight together, as one, we shan't fall."

She lined herself up with the others, standing at the rear and holding her pack aloft by one shoulder, not giving thought to the boy who mispronounced her name. It was a common mistake anyway.

Sven would have gathered his belongings, but had none to gather so he simply left the train to join the line in front of the man with the scroll.

"Reporting in sir. Um... you do have equipment for new recruits, right?"

The conscript turns white as a ghost, and he visibly flinches as Sarek pats him on the shoulder and Leiara leans in to whisper. "I-I though' maybe those're just rumors..." he mumbles quietly, voice dead as he slinks along behind your group to join the line. "Mm...Ian Farmer, reportin' in..."

The man reading from the scroll, meanwhile, returns D'zelik's stare for a moment before his focus switches to Sarek. "Oh, uh. Sorry, sir, didn't exactly ha-"
"That will be enough, Lieutenant." a second voice, hard as steel, cuts him off, and the Lieutenant immediately snaps to rigid attention. The voice issues forth from a second man who only now emerges from the crowd. His black hair is close-cropped in a standard military style, and his icy blue eyes are flat in his face as he examines the lot of you. After a moment, he crosses his arms over the dark black leather he wears.
"A Tel'hal, eh?" he comments, more than a hint of scorn entering his voice, "The regiments from your lands haven't arrived yet."
He sneers, "Not that I'd expect them to, considering your family. So what, have you come seeking fame? Some measly honor for your name, boy? Day knows your sorry line could use some."
"As for you, gnome. Do you really expect us to send you out to battle unarmed? Waste of equipment as it'll be when you lose your head out there, maybe you'll take something down with you before you go. Speak to Lieutenant Ward when introductions are done."

He paces in front of your line for a moment, eyeing each of you up and down in turn. He pauses at Fibleck, staring into the dwarf's eyes for a moment before moving on. He stops again before Leiara, and this time his eyes are clearly elsewhere. As he comes across Ian Farmer, he takes a quick step forward which causes the conscript to stumble back in alarm. Next he comes across D'zelik, and here he pauses not to look at the hunter but instead to simply turn his head and spit in disgust before moving on. The line is ten in all, not counting the Lieutenant and this man, and he pauses and treats several others to similar hateful gazes as he passes.

Finally, on his return trip across he begins to speak: "Alright, listen up you lot. I am Captain Tobias Flint. You will refer to me as Captain or Sir, and nothing else. You are in Regiment Eighty-Six, and until this war is over you are mine. You will do as I tell you. If I order you to slog through mud and rain for the next week, you will do that. If I order you to burn down a village, you will do that. If I order you," Flint pauses, pointing to Wesley, "to kill him," he then points to Ian Farmer, "you will do that. Do I make myself clear?"

Fibleck easily slipped into the environment, it wasn't that different from escorting a caravan, only the caravan environment was a bit friendlier.  "Sir, yes, sir!" he saluted.

Wesley gives a half hearted salute "I'll be sure to stand extra still when you give that order... sir."
