Magma, walls, and fire
« on: February 05, 2012, 06:00:17 pm »

I've just constructed by first magma pump stack and surface reservoir to build a new welcome for my Fortress Defense friends.  My reservoir was natural stone and constructed gabbro wall, with a gabbro drawbridge in the up-position for the fourth wall (connected to a lever for quick dispensing).  As the reservoir began to fill with magma, grass outside the reservoir began to catch fire, leading to a spectacular wildfire.

The question: why did this happen? Can magma ignite things it is not in physical contact with? Can the warm stone wall ignite things? Could the burning grass inside the reservoir somehow hop the wall (there was no roof)?

Magma affects the temperature of nearby tiles. When DF2010 first came out, this was exploited to make a goblin melting chamber with magma and small amounts of water.

Warm stone nowadays does nought more than annoy overseers with massive cancellation spam. Or you know, actually save a fort from destruction.

Or at least one two tiles wide.
