Re: Humanity. -Obek Vandel meets an old man [Edited because it was stupid]
« Reply #75 on: February 10, 2012, 07:26:15 pm »

EDIT: Occasionally I get stupid and write some random crap. This was one of those times. Hopefully less stupid now.

"Vasier is long, long dead. What remains are his childrens childrens childrens children, give or take a couple children, my memory isnt what it used to be. But what remains of his family travelled to Barrsmouth a while back." Somehow you feel as if his head has turned inside out from the size of that grin, while it clearly hasnt.

"What are you waiting for?! Lets go! Barrspring awaits!"

Wait, Barrspring is under control of Krlnkir Yrlvnt. Barrmouth is totally diffirent place in game. Is that old mage trying to rule us into trap or just messed something up?

I noticed that too.  But then, why would we ever pass up so inviting a trap?

Actually, probably because we're mortal and die easily.

You know what, screw it.  Insanity man it is!

The old man thinks for a bit, and then states proudly that he has never been to Granttown before and that this will certainly be the best trip ever. You have already decided to keep him, but are slowly starting to reconsider it. "So what is it, Grantown, Barrsmouth or Barrspring?" The old man thinks again, and answers: "Definately Aviemore. Wait...thats where we are right now. Which of them is south?" "Thats Barrsmouth." "Then that where the Gehennas went."

With great difficulty you drag the old man to the inn. He has a tendency of randomly changing directions, and you have to literally turn him around from time to time. You spend some time attempting to ascertain who he actually is, but he keeps calling himself the king of the Tokzoku empire, which you highly doubt. And at one point he becomes convinced that he is a fort. However his relatively small amount of sanity returns quickly and he notices that he is not a fort, nor made of stone.

Upon finally reaching the inn, you have a very(very) hard time convincing everyone else that he is a valid source of info, but everyone else found absolutely nothing, making things far easier. In a fit of sanity and/or luck, the man manages to  convince everyone else that maybe, but just maybe, he does know something: "The Gehenna family travelled south to Barrsmouth after they got tired of The Barrtal Monster Hunters trying to buy, take and steal Grimbane. They were hoping that travelling farther away would get rid of them." After this he remains silent and relatively sane looking.

You spend a week in Aviemore, attempting to see if you can find anything else. The others dont trust the old man, and quite frankly, neither do you. Over the course of the week you find absolutely nothing. Not a single clue or piece of paper on anything related to the Gehennas. Having no other choice, you follow the old mans directions and get ready for a trip to Barrsmouth. Before long, you are on your path, the old man with you. The others in the party do not particularly like having him around, but agree to it if you are the one to take care of him.

You leave Aviemore and head south, to Nagatron. The path to Barrspring is long, but the less hilly terrain of Nagatron makes travel easier than in Barrtal. You travel alongside Barr, stopping in the small villages that live off the river, but only to sleep and eat. You would think about stopping a bit longer in some, but your compatriots wish to find Grimbane and to return home. After a week of travel, you see someone waving at you in the middle of the road. You stop next to him to hear what he has to say.

A couple dozen bandits had apparently attacked his village and dragged off 8 people to their camp. He hasnt been able to get any help from any of the local lords, and begs for your help.

This is met by mixed reactions from your group, half want to go on, and call someone else to help. The other half think you should go help them out. Paul is ambivalent about the whole thing, and asks for your opinion on the matter.

So, do you go help, or continue to Barrsmouth? And if you decide to help, do you go to the village, or directly to the camp?

There's no sense in not fighting the bandits. If you're going to be fighting angels and demons you'd better get some practice.

Again, this seems like a trap, but I suppose the question is - how are we in any way qualified to take out two dozen bandits?  You might be able to negotiate a release, but... you can't help without more forces.  Your party consists of a bunch of bookworms, two soldiers and a lunatic.  Unless he's a secret old master, you can hardly go hero-ing, can you?

Unless someone can make a good argument for being physically able to help, go directly to the camp.

Two soldiers, five scholars and one crazy old man against couple dozens of bandits? This does not sound good, even if we try to be really, really sneaky. If we could create some kind of sleeping gas or poison or... What skills our companions does have?

The soldiers dont know anything with the exception of combat. All the scholars(you included) know some basics about magic, Paul is certified wizard and the old man is an old man. You can easily make basic poisons and even smoke bombs if you have the right materials. You can make anything that a highly educated person could, only limit is resources. You could find some poisonous herbs if you look around the countryside, and the village might have some.

Hmmm. It's probably just a trap, and what we would get if it was not? Few coins, lots of food? It won't help us in our journey. We shall get away from here as soon as posibble in order to avoid unnecessary troubles. However, we shall look for useful herbs during our journey.

Well, what kind of magic do we have? just a few small illusions, or fireballs and lightning bolts?

If 1 manpower means that we are equal to one average human then:
Mental might: 1.5
means we probably know few minor illusions.

Well... depending on how poisonous or even euphoria-inducing those herbs are, we could powder them and put them into some simple fired-clay bombs (build a quick kiln if there's clay around, fire-bake some clay bombs), dip some bits of string in candle wax (assuming we have candles!) to use as fuses, then light and hurl them whilst casting minor illusions.  The clay bombs break, the fire catches the powder and it ignites the same way flour does when exposed to a naked flame, dispersing the poison whilst we create terrible illusions to plague them.  With a bit of luck, we can drive them off whilst screaming about monsters.

You are making me give stats to the party?! You are an evil person.

The scholars are running on similar power as you. So 4 people with 2 PM and 1.5 MM(includes you)
1 person with 2 PM and 4 MM
2 people with 4 PM and 1 MM
1 person with 1 PM and ?MM

Basically, most of the party are more proficient physically, but against bandits with no mages, magic and trickery would work better, unless the soldiers go completely balls-out.

against two dozen bandits we'd be kinda out of our league. if we could get some help, we'd fare better.

2 votes to not go (1 for seek help from ?)

Need an extra voter or three, or five.
