Turn 27: First Blood
You decide on a plan.

Panel 1:

You tell Olof to go around the other side and give Shelby a leg up onto the ledge.

Panel 2:

Olof floats out of the bushes and the grouge fumbles for it's piece of metal.

Panel 3:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Shelby gets closer to the grouge. while Olof continues to distract it. It's fear keeping it from calling out.

Panel 4:

Shelby gives it a good hit to the head. You hear the loud thunk from over here.

Panel 5:

The grouge recovers from the blow and swings around to take a stab at Shelby. But at the sight of the skeleton it's grip faulters and the blow only does minor damage.

Panel 6:

Shelby strikes the grouge again, this time in the neck. The grouge goes limp and drops it's metal. Some blood runs off the shovel. The grouge has been slain.

Panel 7:

Olof: "That was a good plan Mayard. I thought this would be more difficult but luckily this creature was such a coward he didn't even call for help."

Woot!

Olaf: Scout ahead in the tunnel.

Mayard: Examine Shelby for damage. Can we use necromancy in the field to fix creations which are damaged? Worth a try.

Shelby: Keep watch until Olaf returns. If you see a thing which is not Olaf and not Mayard, brain it with the shovel until it stops moving.

Also: I keep typing Maynard for some reason and having to go correct it. >.>

I hear a piranha is good eating.  I have a spear; I'll be fine!
The Pilot and their cargo handlers paused when they saw that the entire camp is covered in eldritch runes coated in blood. And rotting monkey corpses everywhere..

They decide that they didn't get paid enough for this..

It wasn't actually a knife, it was a slightly sharp piece of scrap metal. But sure why not, may as well take it.

Turn 28:

Panel 1:

You tell Olof to scout out the cave while you see what you can do about Shelby.

Olof: "Okay. Absorb some of that grouge's spiritual energy into that shovel or something. Don't want to let it go to waste."

Then Olof begins to go invisible as he floats into the cave.

Panel 2:

Shelby has a scratch along on of his arms. You don't know how to fix the damage and neither does Shelby.

Panel 3:

Looking at it from here you notice that the weapon the grouge had wasn't just a piece of metal. It appears to be a knife, although it doesn't have much of a cutting edge, it is probabley best used for stabbing. You want that knife, no, you need that knife. You take the knife.

You begin to store some of the grouge's energy into the shovel, and some into the knife. It feels like there is quite a bit left though.

Panel 4:

You finish storing the energy as Olof comes back.

Olof: "No traps that I can see. The entrance leads into a passageway that continues until it opens into a larger room. The other two grouges are in that room. One of them looked quite frightened and was the same size as this dead one. The other grouge is larger and appears to be packing. Neither of them are holding weapons but there are a few around the room."

Try storing spiritual energy in Shelby.

If that fails, store the rest in any handy objects such as your stick, clothing, etc. Don't let it go to waste.

After that, head into the cave with Shelby leading the way.

Olaf: Distract the grouges by floating around and being spooky.

Shelby: Charge the bigger grouge and brain him with the shovel.

Mayard: Stab the smaller grouge with your new spirit knife.

Also: Shelby should be a woman. The woman of Mayard's dreams, created that way through his subconscious desire. He doesn't even know Shelby is a female spirit. Shelby is secretly in love with him but unable to say so or act on it.

Sure, Shelby can be a girl, despite having the bones of a man ( I think ).

Have Olof make lots of loud noises to lure grouges out of the cave.  I'm guessing they have a bit of an advantage in there.  Have both Shelby and Mayard hide behind some bushes, and when grouges come out, have Shelby attack them with shovel, with Mayard stabbing them as well.
