what does Olaf get out of this? /suspicion!/
Well, the most obvious thing he got out of this is someone to bring him back from the dead.

Well yes, but he's not actually raised. He's a spirit currently. If all he wanted was to be placed in a circle after death he could have likely arranged that without teaching a young man necromancy. He wants something, I'm sure. Something only another necromancer could provide.

I am guessing it will be a new body. One that is difficult, if not impossible to destroy.

The Pilot and their cargo handlers paused when they saw that the entire camp is covered in eldritch runes coated in blood. And rotting monkey corpses everywhere..

They decide that they didn't get paid enough for this..

If that is what he requests we'll have to be careful not to create anything that could threaten us. We can be nice and good-natured so long as we're not also naive. The first rule of being a powerful mage is to never create something more powerful than yourself without including some method of control.

Call me paranoid but this whole setup smacks of some kind of trap or doublecross.

    Turn 18: Game abstractions

    Panel 1:
    Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Mayard: "Ok, I'll be your apprentice."
Olof: "I'm not detecting a lot of trust in your voice but I'll teach you anyway, you always were a bit paranoid Mayard. Now lets get down to buisness, since you brought me back as a spirit I think you deserve a reward. I will give you a lesson, what do you want to know?"

At this point Olof gives you a summary of some of the skills he can teach you and what knowledge you will need before you can learn them. You think a fitting way to represent this information would be through a diagram and a list.

    So here you go:
    Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You currently have 110 trust points.

Everyone want's Shelby to inhabit a better form for his Loyalty, I'd bet he would even work harder due to his other trait!

I'd say, Bonefeast and skeletal muscle, if we run into obstacles of the magical kind we can deal (or learn to deal) with them ourselves, if we run into obstacles of the physical kind... lets just say Maynard looks a little scrawnie and it would be a great help if our skeletal minions could offset this particular shortcomming

we should also consider asking our newfound master why his spirit desires to linger on the material world.

Alright, I'll admit getting a better body for Shelby is a better idea.  +1 for this, and ignore my previous suggestion, which I will erase.

Crystaline Spirit, giving Olof a body should help us gain trust points.

Maybe I wasn't clear on this but that isn't what that skill does at all. It turns spiritual energy into crystals. When you had the heart it contained spiritual energy, you used that energy to create Shelby's spirirt. So using that skill would allow you to store that energy in a physical form. Although you couldn't actualy use it without crystal use (because of balance and all that). You also use it to grow familiars if you have the skill.
