Just dig it up already.

let shellby keep watch for you while you dig. if anyone/thing comes nearby, have him warn you.
This seems backwards. Why not have the mindless skeletal minion do the work while the intelligent human who knows what to look for keeps a lookout for observers and dangers.
Because I lean towards getting my hands dirty when I can.

Turn 15: Badly drawn bodies everywhere.

Panel 1:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You get Shelby to dig up the body. What is the point of having a skeletal servant if you do all the dirty work?

Panel 2:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You sure hope Olof's body isn't to gross. Dead guy in the forest is one thing, but Olof was a family friend.

Shelby: "I have finished digging master."

You don't reply on account of how creepy Shelby's voice is. Well, let's take a look at the body then.

Panel 3:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Agh, there is still some flesh and skin on the bones. Funnily enough that is the same amount of hair that he had when he was alive though.

Panel 4:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You should probabley do something about the grave. If anyone sees it it will be pretty obvious that someone came and dug him up.

No.

Let Shelby fill the grave with a large rock and you fill it with dirt while he carries the corpse. Make sure the topsoil is grassy and 'fresh'. Pick a few berries while whistling a merry tune.

Gtfo as needed.

Turn 16: The perfect crime

Panel 1:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
First you dig and Shelby moves some nearby rocks into the grave.

Panel 2:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Then Shelby digs and you gather some berries while whistling a merry tune, well as merry as you can manage when you are desecrating a burial site. They aren't the best tasting things around but they'll keep you alive.

Panel 3:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
And then you both move the black stones onto the grave. Now you should probabley Gtfo.

Panel 4:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
So you do.

Panel 5:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The perfect crime.

Shelby: "Should we place this corpse in the circle like the message said master?"

Oh right, you almost forgot why you were getting the body.

Also, snuff out any distinguishable lights in the upper floor. Barricade the door using...something heavy! Find something to pin on nose, so that the scent of decay won't interrupt Mayard.

Turn 17: Time to get things done

Panel 1:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You decide to move the table in front of the door so there is less chance you will be disturbed.

Panel 2:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
By moving the table you uncover your books.

You have the following books:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Shelby: "What are these master?"
Mayard: "Those are books."
Shelby: "What do they do?"
Mayard: "They, um, they tell stories. The symbols in them mean words, do you understand?"
Shelby: "Yes."

It never occured to you that things you raise won't know what some things do. I guess you'll just have to deal with it.

Panel 3:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The light is going up to the 1st floor so you go to close the hatch.

Panel 4:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Okay, time to do this. The message said to put the body in the circle so you tell Shelby to do it.

Panel 5:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Shelby complies. The circle begins to lose its colour and glow.

Panel 6:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You are forced to close your eyes due to the light's intensity.

Panel 7:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The light dissapates and you open your eyes. You are shocked.

Olof: "Hello Mayard. I see you found my book."
Mayard: "I u-"
Olof: "Before you say anything I'd like to extend an offer. I am prepared to take you on as my apprentice. With my help you can learn much more then you would from that book or by trial and error. You could become very powerful Mayard."

Normally, I'd suggest something devious, with lots of backstabbing.  But Mayard's not like that.  He's more like Harry Potter than Kel'thuzad.

Honestly agree to follow Olof.

I agree with NRDL, our character isn't the sort for backstabbing. Also, if possible we should raise Olof's skeleton and make it think that it is the real Olof.

Hold on a second.

Ask what the catch is.

He didn't go to all this trouble just to have us learn stuff from him. Mayard may not be backstabby but what does Olaf get out of this? /suspicion!/
