I think I've made it clear what I do have a problem with, like the fandom at large (or at least a very vocal contingent of it) apparently feeling the need to insert their subculture that revolves around a single television show into basically everything they come across. It is incredibly hard to avoid, and that is sincerely aggravating.

My rule is always this:

If people are gushing to you, directly, and you've made it clear you're uninterested: I sympathize.
If people are gushing to fellow fans, and you just happen to be within hearing distance: too fucking bad~



Now excuse me while I ride Rainbow Dash in Skyrim. Maybe have a pony fort on the other computer. Or hey, turn Yoshi into Pinkie Pie in super mario world (though TBH the sprite sucks). It's fortunate to have fun, non-intrusive crossover mods available for those that enjoy them, and I appreciate the work of those who put in the effort to make their crossovers a reality.

That's always been my view as well. Yeah, there are dunderheads who are going to shout memes at you, just like every other popular thing on earth. But when people are talking about X (in this case, MLP), and someone happens to be in earshot (or lurking in the thread), and then spends the rest of their day complaining about X being everywhere, how people won't shut up about X, etc., I don't have a whole lot of sympathy.

I just want to say that I think it is rather funny that this long after the fact there are still people who weren't involved at all making stuff up to generate forum drama. As of the moment, that subforum consists of one horrorfic, one discussion on what we'll allow, and 3 defunct shockfics which haven't been posted in for months, along with a few Swift and mermaid references. If you're interested, feel free to stop lurking, and I'll be happy to give you access, as I and Dsarker have to everyone who bothered to make an account. Otherwise, stop stirring up crap. Thanks.

I apologize if I was wrong about any of my impressions. Also, a fugitive? I noticed some guys there getting pretty up in arms about recent bans, if that's what you mean. Or does Armok also count as a fugitive? A fugitive from something, anyway.

You're being extremely dismissive with that "too fucking bad" statement. You're part of a community, here and on other forums/places. It's not a simple matter of avoiding everything pony-related, because we can't, because it's all over the damn place and affects how people act both with each other and with other people. Although you apparently don't seem interested in an actual outside opinion on the matter, or considering how the behavior of your children's cartoon subculture/identity impacts those who don't share it.

That's fine, it just was rather irritating to see an echo of the behavior that cropped up when the old thread was locked.

Correct on all counts.

I've heard the arguments many times. I've heard the complaints many times.

I've heard it every time people complain about Starbucks being "everwhere."
I hear it when people complain about the latest song on the radio they don't like.
I hear it when people complain about the latest popular book or movie.

These things can be an eyesore (earsore). Memes and fads get annoying. Not everyone likes every piece of pop culture, and seeing it everywhere can be grating. I get that.

But I do not believe that hiding away one's passions and interests is necessitated by courtesy. In fact, I consider tolerating other's passions and interests, provided they're not actively (key word) shoving it down your throat, to be necessitated by courtesy. Who's the jackass here? The one screaming "hide what you like, and stop identifying with it, because I DON'T LIKE WHAT YOU LIKE."


Some things you will not like. Some of those things you will see often. Get over it, because insulting and trying to stifle those that do like it is simply rude.

I think it's a matter of courtesy to act with regard to the group in question that you are dealing with at a given time. For instance, the guy who started this thread just took it for granted that a Dwarf Fortress blog should, for whatever reason, have ponies involved. Like it was some kind of assumption that everything needs ponies, and that everyone is interested in that, and that everyone cares or would find it appropriate. Stuff like that is a matter of courtesy to me. I'm okay with dudes openly liking things, but people have to keep in mind that not everybody is into the same stuff they are and shouldn't take it for granted. There are things I'm into, and that I'm passionate about, but I don't feel the need to talk about it in every single place, at all possible times, without any regard for what the social context is or what the people there are actually interested in. That is a matter of courtesy.
