What the hell is with MLP anyway? I don't get it. Is it supposed to be ironic/tongue-in-cheek or are there seriously grown adults who love sparkly ponies? >.> Arg.

Very serious. I mean, I personally don't care if adults (well, mostly teenagers in this case) like some cartoon. For all I know, it's a well-written and well-executed show that appeals to various audiences for various reasons; that happens from time to time, and people can certainly have good reasons for liking something.

But yes, bronies are very serious. And they're everywhere, and the fact that they like this one TV show composes a surprising amount of their identity, to the point where some of them have trouble relating to anything if FiM ponies aren't involved.

There are plenty on this forum, including people you might not expect because, to their credit, they don't make it obvious all the time. They made threads about FiM here, until three in a freaking row had to get locked by Toady and he issued some kind of moratorium on starting new ones.

So the bay12forums bronies started their own forum for their brony talk, including plenty of bizarre fanfiction, and a ~TOP SECRET INVITE-ONLY SECTION~ where they put all their gore and sex fanfic.

I don't want to think about this anymore.

Seriously?
The amount of split-off pony communities is kind of ridiculous.

Yeah, I believe they started it as a reaction to the shutting down of pony threads here, what with the wailing and gnashing of teeth and all. Some people here have the link in their signatures.

Firstly, split DF from MLP. I like MLP, but all the ponyspam I find EVERYWHERE in the internet irritates me (and almost everyone of us).

Second, if this tumblr is supposed to promote DF, keep irrelevant topics away from that (ponies, TTGL, Starcraft, etc) unless needed (via mods or whatev).

Thirdly, NetHack and DF are two very different games. We don't need to compete against them.

Fourth, ponies are almost banned here due to that fiasco involving the organization of inappropriate tags (including XXX), so please don't taint the forums with more pony, unless its in an appropriate place (pony mods), or just discuss that aspect elsewhere in that split forum for bronies.

Spoiler: Off Topic (click to show/hide)
Anyway, back on topic. Do we need a tumblr? Not really. Yes, theoretically everyone could submit stuff to the tumblr, but as far as I know, at the end there would still be someone who would have to approve every single submission.
Not to mention that I have no idea what we should even post there.
The Dev Log? That's kind of redundant.
New episodes/additions of tutorials, guides and Let's Plays? Possible, but that's only interesting for very few people.
Funny videos and stories? That's what the forum is for.

So, really, we don't need a tumblr. But if we do make or have one, it should be about Dwarf Fortress and only Dwarf Fortress. Off-Topic stuff should not be tolerated.

Tumblr looks like a great way to post community fort updates.

For some fans of the show? Yes. For most of them? No. You get that with every fandom. FiM is nothing special.

Not every fandom is the same, sorry. The FiM fandom is particular is extremely, er, well-represented no matter where you go. It's basically everywhere, and in force. It's the most common fandom I see anywhere these days, and on top of that, it's the one that seems to most common inject itself into unrelated things. I'm not saying they're bad people, or that all fans of the show are like that; I'm just making a comment on the community as a whole.

Quote
Yeah, there is some bizarre fanfiction, if you call crossovers (which most of them are) "bizarre". Which is, I guess, a fairly reasonable standpoint to take, but nowadays there are crossovers of basically everything with basically everything else, so not having any crossoves would be very surprising and even more bizarre.

I've seen much weirder than that posted and talked about that. You seriously aren't looking very hard. I just saw one where Twilight learns she's some kind of robot or golem or something and tries to kill other ponies because of it, and apparently war is involved? Hilarious. Oh, and someone there linked to another one about one of the ponies getting tied up and shipped in a crate somewhere via air mail, with effects that seemed to be... well, I won't go into it, because it would violate forum guidelines. Speaking of which, I've heard mention of gore/"18+" style fic in the ~invitation-only member's club~ portion.

Quote
Oh, and the "top secret invite-only section" is neither top secret nor invite-only, it's just hidden by default from new members, but its existence is obvious to everyone.

Er, yes, it is invite-only. You need to be explicitly allowed into the group in order to see it. I mean, sure, you can request permission, but you still need an invitation.

Quote
The reason for its existence is: We are all fans of Dwarf Fortress, a game where ridiculously gorey and violent stuff happens all the time, so it was only a matter of time until someone wrote a fanfic that includes serious physical injuries. Which some people might not want to see.

I can't comment on things I haven't seen (isn't it fun to hide behind a barrier like "I won't let you see what I'm arguing about"?), but I am pretty damn positive there's some explicitly sexual stuff in there too from what others have seen, and normally when fans write quasi-hidden gore fic, there's a bit of subtext (or even more overt, just, regular text) that goes beyond "people getting injured".

You do realise you're judging a community off of /b/tards right?

Oh and, it's not invite :P

Oh and, if you could see it, you'd get the joke.

Hey guys, I heard there was pony whining here. Who wants popcorn?

(in serious, don't repeat previous events please. Don't whine when people express their like of something, don't unfairly generalize stereotypes, don't complain about people liking stuff you consider gross or whatever, etc etc etc. There's a shiny report button to be used if things get too aggressive again. Live and let live, already.)

I don't interact with /b/ in any way and I'm not sure what you even mean by this.

Yes, it is. It requires someone to add you to the group before you can see it. You can't add yourself.

Don't whine when people express their like of something, don't unfairly generalize stereotypes, don't complain about people liking stuff you consider gross or whatever

I don't care what people like (for the most part), and I'm not engaging in stereotyping. That being said, if I don't like something other people like, or find what someone else does to be weird, I don't see the harm in being vocal about it, especially when the group in question is fairly vocal themselves. I think I've made it clear what I do have a problem with, like the fandom at large (or at least a very vocal contingent of it) apparently feeling the need to insert their subculture that revolves around a single television show into basically everything they come across. It is incredibly hard to avoid, and that is sincerely aggravating.

I just want to say that I think it is rather funny that this long after the fact there are still people who weren't involved at all making stuff up to generate forum drama. As of the moment, that subforum consists of one horrorfic, one discussion on what we'll allow, and 3 defunct shockfics which haven't been posted in for months, along with a few Swift and mermaid references. If you're interested, feel free to stop lurking, and I'll be happy to give you access, as I and Dsarker have to everyone who bothered to make an account. Otherwise, stop stirring up crap. Thanks.  :)

I agree with this. Seeing all of their memes spammed everywhere is annoying. That said, I have nothing against bronies or the show itself, but like I said, they attempt to inject themselves everywhere, it has become so annoying.
