Yes, yes. Excellent. Very angelic. I aprove.

Investigate the camp as a human traveller. One suspects there may be mortals there in need of... cleansing.

Gain access to the village openly, via the gates
She is not some demon scum to hide in shadows

Agreed.
For once, I want to see how the direct rout plays out.

You approach the village gates just as dawn approaches, as the camp is not directly in front of it.  You call out for someone to open them and after a short amount of shuffling an old man holding a sling and a battered wooden shield pops his head over the top of the palisade.

"We're not giving up, you- oh!"

You politely ask you to let him in.

"Gods, woman, can't you see we're under siege?  I can't open the gates for anyone, and the best thing you can do is run as fast as you can before that wizard and his cronies see you, lest you end up like us.  I'd ask you to send help to Turnfell or Redstone, but they've already been hit.  Now go, just pick a direction and run.  Save yourself!"

The gatekeeper seems quite reasonably set on keeping you out.  Will you:

- Ask him again, applying a degree of gentle mental pressure.
- Ask him again, breaking his mind if need be to get compliance.
- Break the gate down and enter anyway.
- Something else?

Angel, not god.  Gods are... well, we'll get to that when we get to that.

I don't suppose we could just fly over the palisade?

I'd go with that option. The other two are a little too extreme.

Bluh bluh.

You are all a bunch of pansies, first in Demonhood, now here.

You asked politely. He refused. Clearly these villagers do not want to be saved. So you must force salvation upon them. Force it down their throats until they gag, vomiting up their evil ways.

Despite the fact that you are an angel and could easily fly over the palisade, break it down or break the mind of the gatekeeper, you opt for a slightly more benevolent route.  You repeat your request to enter, this time projecting a measure of your will upon the man.  He seems confused and repeats his encouragement for you to leave.  You ask once more, applying rather more force.  His face goes blank for a moment, then beams as if you are an old friend.

"Well, since you ask so nicely.  Make it quick though, I'd best close the gate before any of the... well, they get in."

The gate opens a crack and you squeeze through.  The gatekeeper shuts it quickly behind you.  You take the opportunity to survey the village more thoroughly.  Truthfully all it consists of is a bunch of cottages clustered around a central green, the obvious exception being the village chapel.  The chapel is the only stone building in the village, a small domed affair bearing the sunsign mark of Tokchoko.  Around it there is a little fenced green with grave markers.  Fortunately the graves seem undisturbed.

There is no faith in that chapel, though your guide tells you that is where most of the villagers are holing up.  When the wizard and his men (and the monsters, he admits) came, the people of the surrounding villagers came here for succour and because it was the only village with a wall for miles.  Their attempted stand to force the wizard away went poorly, as the battlefield outside testifies.

Troubling.  If that chapel was manned and there was still faith here, a priest could have blessed the pitchforks and scythes the farmers had used to strike down darker forces (such as the creatures your guide keeps avoiding mentioning) with much greater power.  They might even have been able to ward the walls against necromancy.  Yet there is no faith here.  You ask about the village priest and the gatekeeper tells you he ran for the hills when the wizard came - no one has seen him since.  You know this alone would not have been enough.  There has been no faith here, no belief in the power of the gods, for far longer than this wizard has been roaming the plains.

What will you do?
