Examine the damages.

What, is Bael's attention span so short that he immediately forgets what he was trying to do when he trips over something?

But seriously, there might be fat lutes in that boat.

We could use a musical instrument.
To the east!
im with nuke check the boat wreckage more. then go east

What, is Bael's attention span so short that he immediately forgets what he was trying to do when he trips over something?
((Now he does.))

At a glance Bael notices several major problems with his boat.

The hull has several major holes and gashes in the wood, which would take at least a week of work to just get the lumber to repair them. The metal prow is mostly intact but laying in the sand a few dozen feet away from the front of the boat. The masts are hanging off in the sand, and the canvas is full of holes and tears. The boat itself has at least one or two feet of sand holding it down.

Entering one of the holes in the ship, a few other damages make Bael wince.
First off, the chest containing his tools is gone, there are several holes in the other side of the hull, each one bigger then the last.
On a whim he decides to head into the engine room.
The engine has sand in every place sand shouldn't be in, several brass pipes, pistons and bolts are missing. The ever-burning fire rune is completely compromised and you have no magical experience- besides being able to light a small fire on the tip of one your fingers- to repair it.
Bael heads into his cabin, which suffers no damage besides the desk and dresser being tipped over and in a pile on the far wall.
He reclines in his hammock and wonders what he's going to do next.

Well, what is he going to do next?

Rummage through his desk and dresser, looking for his favourite fat lute.
And anything else of value/interest left in them.

Bael moves the desk and dresser off of one another and looks through them.

Spoiler: Desk (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Dresser (click to show/hide)

After looking through his dresser and desk and taking what he wants from them, Bael heads out of the boat and towards the curling grey smoke that lies to the east.

Bael discovers a village, not a very good or orderly one, seeing as it must have went through a war or disaster. Most of the houses that are still standing are made out of wooden planks. He notices that a few just seem to be overturned boats.

Several houses are crushed in, the largest building- a tower of yellowish stone- is in ruins, a few huts are just smoldering wrecks and seven houses are still aflame with blue fire.
From the screams and frantic movements of the townsfolk, you can guess that people are still trapped in the house that is nearest to you.

What do you do and what did you take from your cabin?

what did you take from your cabin?
EVERYTHING.
We wear the silk shirt and trousers, the studded leather vest over it, and the canvas jacket and trousers over that. And the boots, and the foppish hat. We put on the necklace, stow the quill, ink, and paper in one of the jacket pockets, and then, regretting the loss of our beloved lute, set out.

From the screams and frantic movements of the townsfolk, you can guess that people are still trapped in the house that is nearest to you.

What do you do
Tell one of the villagers to hold your hat, dash into the house, rescue those trapped within, and help them out. If there is a fair maiden/cat, rescue it last, and wait until the building is on the verge of collapsing before running out holding the maiden/cat in your arms. Then put down the maiden/kiss the cat, take your hat back from the bewildered villager, and leave, never to be seen again.

Until you realise how hungry you are and return to ask if you could borrow some food.

+1 to this. You never know how long an adventure will last. Might need the extra layer.

Oh! I just noticed we weren't naked.
Well, in that case, we also fashion a crude backpack from our ragged clothing, and use it to store our stuff in.
Then do all that other stuff I said.

Heroic stuff.

Bael throws his hat to a man standing by the by the building, getting ready to go in, he catches it out of reflex, and begins to say something, but Bael is already sprinting through the door.
The smoke is worse here, worse then he thought it would be, and in moments he’s coughing and choking on it. He pulls his undershirt up over his nose and mouth to form a makeshift mask as he strained to hear the cries over the manic crackling of the blue fire which was consuming the timbers of the house with an unnatural hunger. A ladder, burnt and charred from the fire, nearing collapse, provides the only way up to the second story of the building, where the cries- now faint and hoarse- were coming from.

With a curse, Bael begins to climb, balancing on each collapsing rung with agility born from a lifetime of experience. After a few tension filled seconds and some surprising jumps, he finally heaves himself up on to the second story landing. An unconscious man- only a few years older then him- has his shoulder pinned under a large beam, a thin girl is trying to heave the timber off, but with no luck so far.
Without a word, Bael was beside her, and with their combined strength, manage to move it enough to pull the man free. With a little help from the girl, the unconscious man is slung over Bael’s shoulder with scant ceremony.
Bael gestures at the ladder and she nods, however, at the halfway point, she collapses into a coughing heap. Blood paints the whitish-grey linen wrapped around her face a crimson red. With only a moment of hesitation, Bael heads back and scoops her up, slinging over his other, free, shoulder.

Arriving at the ladder and realizing he cannot climb back down with both his hands occupied, he sighs, wincing at the sudden pain that flares forth in his lungs and throat, then jumps.
His foot twists upon impact, spraining his ankle and slowing him down as he hastens his way out the mangled door.

The building collapses in on it’s self just as Bael exits it. Handing the injured over, shaky from the adrenaline, he reclaimed his hat from the man, smiling a small smile as he did so. He doffed it politely to the crowd, took a few steps back towards his boat, only to collapse into the dirt. He coughed up quite a bit of blood before the darkness of unconsciousness claimed him.
Damn.

When Bael awakes, he’s resting in a soft bed that smells of sweet sea-grass and sea-salt. He feels a pressure in his hand, like someone is holding it, which quickly disappears as whoever was doing it noticed he was awake. Every breath he breathes feels like sandpaper rubbing over his lungs, his throat, and the inside of his nose.
His eyes flicker open, taking in the room with a practiced eye. The walls and roof is thick pine board, still crisp and sweet, next to his bed is a wicker chair, in which the girl- it takes a moment for him to recognize her - from the burning building is lounging in.
She has a thin, almost sickly frame, with long sandy blond hair, and a somewhat pretty face.  Her breathing is raspy and she acts like every breathe pains her. But her voice is only somewhat scratchy, but full of concern.

“How are you feeling?”
