Believe it or not, I have gotten to a point where I can appreciate this sort of thing for more than it's comic/memetic value. A friend of mine insisted that I listen to soda-pop-sweet Japanese pop music, and it's stuck to my tastes like raw tuna on rice to a Caucasian college student's tongue.

A friend has been trying to get me into dubstep, which I've been adamantly opposing.

Thankfully I moved out of my mother's house at 16. Then again, considering the ridiculous 200-400-man parties my brother used to throw at our house back in his techno days, my mother would have shrugged dubstep off and gone into her room to blast Chopin or Beethoven like usual.
