If ice goes where a bridge should extend, it wont re-extend and you can't hook a lever to it to get it to extend, if you only had a pressure plate connecting to it.

What sort of ice?  Floor ice or wall ice?

erm, both.

High pressure water system designed to throw enemies out of the entrance... whole entrance to my fort got icified, I think 3 Z levels of ice walls.

Another interesting thing is that the pressure plate didn't reset anything else attached to it; AKA it didn't close the floodgates even though they whern't frozen.  There was nothing on the pressure plate and it still was borking out.  I had to dismantle and re-create the bridge.
