Äkilmörul and Mirstal Artob - Platinum Artifacts
« on: January 28, 2012, 06:22:03 pm »

So aye, another of these "Is this good?" threads.

I happened to get lucky(?), as my armorsmiths were possessed. The results are:

Äkilmörul, "Pointpage", a platinum greaves.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Mirstal Artob, "The Velvet of Combining", a platinum shield.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I've heard platinum is good for maces and war hammers, but I have no idea is it good for armor. Yay or nay? Shall I equip my axedwarf squad leader with them, or do I throw them to the useless-hall-of-many-wonders?

For shields, the material does not matter for defense.  So a platinum shield will be as good as any other. Shield material does matter for using the shield as a weapon, and platinum will work very well for that.

On the other hand though, the greaves are shit. Give them to a noble, it's good for leaders to have a lot of bling, and they shouldn't be actually fighting anyone anyway.

The difference between dwarves with copper and steel shields is large. Density controls blunt damage, and platinum is by far the densest metal in the game.

The sheild bashes will hit like the fist of an angry god.

This statement seems to imply that you are either ignorant of or skeptical towards my ongoing research, and this troubles me mildly. Unless you believe slade to be an impossible weapon material, that is.

...   Shield bashing with a slade shield or using a slade warhammer.

Better yet, x10 slade warhammers in a weapon trap.

The thought of invaders being pummled into salsa by demonmetal hammers is braingasmingly awsome.

I had a spoilerite shield smash a goblin's head open with one strike. The dwarf using it was neither skilled nor strong.

Smash? Given how good an edge that stuff holds it was probably more like sliced open.

This thread reminded me of a platinum crossbow a modded tigerman made once now that I think of it.
