Hunting preferences
« on: January 26, 2012, 07:01:30 pm »

I'd like to be able to toggle animals as huntable or not huntable, similar to how we can toggle stone to be used or ignored as building materials. I want to have my hunters hunt relatively safe game, and not the more dangerous, interesting, and valuable creatures that lurk on an embark(that I may wish to capture at a later date).

I think having toggle off/on all animals would be very very annoying.
The animals should really be set into groups based off their size and ability to harm so you would have a list that would be something like:

Vermin/Elf
Small Game
Medium Game
Large Game
Huge Game
Game That Will End the World

Being able to make hunters hunt in groups like a squad would also be a great boon to the hunting system.

This seems like the best approach to me. It'd get me using hunters more, right now it generally leads me to dead dwarves.

Just have it list the types of wild animal you've seen on the map during it's lifetime rather than a more exhaustive list.
