Take any film (or better yet, PSA) from the 50s-70s, replace "JDs" with "anons", and you've pretty much nailed the way they're being portrayed. The same could be said about pirates, for that matter.

I like Anonymous because I they are:
A. nonautocratic--it doesn't seem like any Anon member coordinates with more than a hand full of the others, no one can claim to be leader, or do something to blacken the whole groups' name (Mr. Assange, I'm looking at you)

B. nonviolent--unlike the terrorists brought up early in the thread they do not kill people, and they seem to intervene when others do (e.g. BART). The world seems so closed and controlled these days, Anon makes it seem less so, or makes the controls more apparent or subverts them.
