Cursed fortress
« on: August 11, 2007, 08:09:00 am »

That haunting thing happened to my fortress today.

After the dwarf caravan left my trade depot, I saw a large miasma spreading for a long time out of the depot. Maybe my dogs drag some small creatures indoor? I thought.

When the caravan was about to leave map, I glanced at the river behind them. Oh, I saw bloody shores, looked like there were a big battle some minutes ago. I found nothing along the river, no corpse, no body parts. A deer and my stray cow was wandering nearby. My floors usually covered by blood, I thought that's because my dogs draged some corpse. But what's up in the river? I've no idea.

I scrolled to the up-left corner and saw a peasant was storing owned equipments! Oh, who will drop items there? Even my hunters never went their.

I also found these:

I've had the bloody shores, turtle remains, stinky depots too.

The weirdest thing by far was that solid, smoothed ground suddenly started "growing" blood and ichor.

The area was completely empty and impossible to get to. The only thing i can think of is that a sneaking troll picked a fight with a sneaking batman or something.

The objects ending at the upmost western part of the map is a known bug. As for the blood, it could easily be because of a monster/animal which been killed next to the river, and if you don't see the corpse then it either been destroyed or moved already...

Blood in the river can cover a really big area, so you should look upstream for a possible corpse.

Or the body could have fallen into the river. Fat chance ever finding it if that's the case.

I thought about that also... But would the corpse not show up even if it fell in the river?

The Marksdwarf bashes the deer in the lower body with his iron crossbow.
It is broken!
The deer is propelled away by the force of the blow!
*splash*
The deer falls into the river.

I think not.
I remember I saw 2 times. One time the deer dropped into the river(I didn't find corpse, or that was a fake memory 0_o). The other time, the deer flew across the river.

The blood thing can happen sometimes when hacked-off limbs fall into the water.  This one time a kobold thief made the mistake of trying to steal from my outdoor depot and run along the road--which happened to be occupied by a human caravan, complete with about half a dozen swordsmen.  In the resulting blender reenactment, a number of the critter's body parts ended up falling into the river, where it proceeded to bleed...and bleed...and bleed...and wash up all along the shores.  The thing is that body parts are much harder to spot with the naked eye than corpses, or they just disappear entirely, creating a phantom blood effect.
