I'm curious, I'm trying to make a sneaky character, and I haven't been able to level it up by moving around bandits in a camp

EDIT: I saw on the wiki page for armor that you could wear multiple layers of armor, such as 2x cap 1x helm 6x hood. Does this provide any decent protection?

Go entirely from the mission-giver to the bandit camp on sneak. It takes a while but will get your level up in no time.

Sneaking at all will up your ambushing skill. You don't need to be near anyone.

1. As a rule of thumb I go into sneak mode whenever I'm in the wild even when im not trying to sneak up on anything, Its handy and stops  random monsters from spotting you and murdering you.

2.  the more layers the better, seriously the amount of times my armour has saved my ass, its also a great insurance policy against stray arrows :)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I figured out why I wasn't leveling up my sneak... I was just on the ground the whole time. I was pressing "s" instead of "S"

EDIT: Derped up the image...

with armor layers the best thing to do is to have more than one kind of armor on a body part.
i.e. a steel mail shirt and a copper one  is no good as the steel one will do all the work.
a bronze brestplate with the steel mail shirt is great as the brestplate will stop blunt attacks.

armor is the best way to say alive, dodgeing is no good as once you take a good blow you cant dodge for a few seconds.

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

Eh what now? You can have three mail shirts, and a breastplate, the mail shirts cover the area above the shoulders that the breastplates don't protect, and the breatplates protect the body against blunt weapons. Dodging is one of the greatest survival skills you can have - no amount of armour can save you from a fatal blow, but a single step the the left can. A single step off a cliff on the other hand... Also, armour gives no guarantees. Your best insurance policy is to not get hit in the first place.
