« on: January 12, 2012, 03:10:48 pm »

Hello all,
Its been a while since ive played DF, and now my issue is keeping the entire fort from dying of thirst. i have tried to build around a body of water, with a roof, and put a well in it, however people die of drowning bc it becomes too crowded.. help.. what can I do that im forgetting?

You are doing something very wrong.  Dwarves should never drown due to overcrowding.  They may die of thirst, if there's not enough wells for all of them to drink in time.

What you should do is make a brewery and brew all your plants into booze.  Don't make your dwarves drink water.

Barrels. A fortress with insufficient barrels will be unable to brew booze. That plus a still going full tilt plus brewers set to brew equals good.

... despite having lost several forts to thirst back when I first started playing, I never saw anyone drown in a well. How does that work? Were they going insane and just randomly wandering into it or can dwarves push eachother down a well?

EDIT2: Oh god, the bat has got a title now.

Build more wells. only 1 dwarf at a time can use it, similar to a barrel of booze

Should you fail to comply, strict !!disciplinary actions!! will be taken. Also, we feel we should remind you that one of the "criminals" on your list is the chief medical dwarf. If he ends up too badly injured to do his job, you will be fired. Out of a magma cannon.

don't listen to the water drinkers. Barrels, rock pots and lotsa booze is the way to go. Water is for sick people and criminals
