"Legit Atom Smasher"
« on: November 07, 2011, 10:11:47 am »

There should be a feature that destroys unwanted objects from lagging. Our current way going around this issue is building raising bridges or dumping things to magma. However magma doesn't do the job on magma-safe items and bridge-atom-smashers take a  an lot effort to maintain, unless you don't care about some casualties every now and then. Hacks are another way but they require you to be cautious, and they feel like cheating.

I suggest that hauling an item to dump zone would remove it from the game.

My solution is simple: Allow Dwarves to store things off site.

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...

I'm guessing (D)umping and (H)iding them isn't an option?

Then again, I guess they're still tracked.

A thoughtfully made atom smasher never hits citizens (unless someone pushes dwarf into it, which isn't something to blame on smasher), semi-molten rock at the bottom of magma sea consumes everything no matter magma-safe or not, a workshop capable of destroying stone, steel, and cloth alike would be a little anticlimactic (or at least out of 14th century tech level).

Ahem. Try my mod. It removes corpses, owned clothing, clothing rot/decay, adds a "legit atom smasher" for remains and bodyparts, and standarizes bodyparts (as in: a bone is a bone is a bone, no matter if it is dog, cat or goblin.) The last feature is unfinished, but leather, bone and fat should work.
