(read Aristotle's Poetics, intended for plays but essential reading for anyone)?

It focuses on plays because plays were the primary form of popular media in Aristotle's time. The whole thing basically just covers plot, using references to works which have been lost for thousands of years. It's not even always correct, though it's a great starting point.

I'm a bit disappointed with how much people in the creative industry haven't read it.
