Copper warhammers...
« on: January 06, 2012, 11:32:14 pm »

Argh, half my militia is sitting in the hospital with shattered arms and legs because a three-squad siege arrived a few ingame weeks ago. Every squad was chock full of hammermen with a mace lord in the lead.

My dwarves have full iron armor and steel weapons. Few have training, but there are twenty five of them. That level of damage was done by thirty gobbos with copper blunt weapons.

In fact, now that I think of it, every single siege from any race has had only blunt weapons. Is it possible for a civ to only use a single weapon type, or maybe two?

Yup. When in world gen, DF also chooses civ uniforms, so you could end up with the rare occasion of a civ solely using one weapon.

Weaponize this=

Gobbos showing up with wooden sticks against dwarfs in full candy gear.

Too easy. Gobbos armoured in iron wielding silver whips and bows with iron arrows. Lotsa goblinite right there :P

True. We have filthy elves for wood anyway.

Copper isn't very heavy in real life, so I'm not sure why copper warhammers would do so much damage. My militia's outfitted entirely with copper weapons (mostly swords and crossbows), but I haven't had any attacks to find out how effective they are.

In DF, copper is the second-strongest weapons grade material for blunt weapons as it's the second heaviest after silver. I think it may have more penetration than silver as well.

But yeah, so far I've had:

Three Beak Wolf sieges, who don't use weapons so they don't count
A Tigerman siege, macemen with hammerman leader
A Putrid Blendec siege, copper morningstars with a flail on the leader
A Gobbo ambush, macemen with a hammerman leader
This particular siege, already stated gear
And now any moment more are probably going to show up at the gates with more blunt gear. I only have ten or so dwarves who are combat-able as my doctors can't seem to actually treat them, perhaps due to the fact that I forgot my CMD on embark so I only have untrained bone doctors. Coupled with the fact that I didn't have enough beds so several of the injured are in their rooms, far away from any traction benches... ugh.

At this rate, I'll have to conscript half my military over again!

_-_

It's denser than steel.
