If I want to send a DF save to a friend via email, which files exactly do I need to send? Do I just send world.sav, or the entire contents of the region folder?

You need to send the entire region. World.sav is your fortress, but the fortress won't work without the region around it.  Just zip up the folder and sent it, and make sure he unzips it in his data/saves location. you can call the folder whatever you want and it won't mess up the data

Ah, thank you.  We're complete noobs at multi-person fortresses, and fairly noobish at DF in general, so we're experimenting with this as a step towards community fortresses once we're more experienced
