It's my theory that Toady is, in fact, a tall dwarf that escaped the DF world with his owner Scamps. He shaved his beard to blend in while working dark arts to bring his world into ours, first by having it take over our computers. Once it has claimed enough harddrives it will then fully bleed over into our 'reality'.

There are two distinct flaws with your logic.
  • No self-respecting dwarf would ever shave his or her beard.
  • I think we were in 40d when Toady was adopted by Scamps.  I seem to vaguely remember his adoption.

More seriously, though, I'd love to know what, if any, helper tools Toady wrote to assist with DF development.

Toady doesn't code - he focuses his mind and wills the very dwarven multiverse into being upon a mere computer harddrive.  The bugs and whatnot are from minor details missed in the grander vision of his dwarvenly creation.
