So i got a interview for Apple tech support but....
« on: January 03, 2012, 05:45:26 pm »

I got a called today about a job interview for tech support. i couldn't handle fiber optics as i don't have enough customer service experience (they want a year i only got 8 months) but i qualified for apple tech support so i went ahead and grabbed that until i remember something: i don't own a apple product. True i play around with them whenever i get the chance but i do not have a mac or a ipod. They are looking for a ipod geek so i can jack my bro's 2nd gen but think you guys can throw me some tips with ipod/ipads? Anything probably simple-minded howtos i can study for technical issues or workarounds, i really want the job and i really don't think its that hard.

Congrats getting an interview.  Get the tech support they want and they'll (possibly) let you move up.

Anyway, I spend most of my time teching linux.  I do the same as you with Apple products, I don't own anything except an iPod but I grab them whenever I can.  My best advice is to read Apple's own Support site and scour Google for common issues.  And just remember you'll have to use your own sense here.  Tech support is the client giving you cryptic, often useless information and trying to decipher what's really wrong.  Study the actual issues, but you can't easily study figuring out what the customer really means when they say something.

Well, if you're Apple type tech support, then I've got an itunes related problem that I'm trying to deal with.
I've got a little bit of music downloaded onto my itunes account, as well as several seasons of Burn Notice, all completely legal from the Itunes store. The thing is, I just got a new laptop. I've authorized the new account and everything and I'd like to get the purchases onto the computer that can run without being in safe mode. Now, the website tells me to put the purchased items on a CD or Ipod and do a transfer purchase from there, the thing is that my old laptop is no longer functioning as a CD burner or as an Ipod syncer (and I don't own an Ipod at the moment).

Is there any way I can just redownload the stuff I purchased online?

I know there is a three download limit on music but don't know about video, have you tried viewing your items while on the new laptop? Wait why did you make a new account?

It sounds like you aren't correctly logged into the account you purchased from.

Which sadly doesn't mean much.  Like I said, tech support is more about figuring out what's really wrong when a customer spouts nonsense to you.  Personality also means a lot.  A second interview on the spot does mean something, though.  Be sure to let us know what they say tomorrow.  And if they don't call to tell you, call them.  Courtesy is to call and thank them for the interview anyway, so take advantage.  Hope you get the job.

No, I just authorized this computer on my old account. It wasn't letting me look at my purchases from this new computer, before.

Looks like it's all working now. Color my problem solved! It might have been the hotel internet I was using before, thinking about it.

Glad to be of service, would you like to take a satisfaction survey before you leave?

Sure. I always offer to do the satisfaction surveys. In the end, I'm just so happy that someone was nice enough to help me with my problem, regardless if that's what they're paid to do, I give high marks.
