Children hoarding clothes
« on: September 06, 2006, 07:19:00 pm »

Children in my pre-economy game (grown-up from immigrant babies or fortress born)  ended up having 50 clothing items each. I guess a child decides they need some clothes, claims some as theirs yet doesn't pick them up. Then they realize they still lack clothes and repeat the process ad infinitum.

Odd.  They should check for owned items.  I guess something's up...

The fact that they don't actually pickup the clothes they claimed and keep on running naked might be the reason

Yea my dwarven children are claiming every single piece of clothing i make, leaving nothing for anyone else. One female dwarf has like 150 pieces of clothing.

Now my nobles are claiming every single piece of clothing that gets made. Every other dwarf is walking around in rags. The nobles can't even wait for the shirts and pants to even be hauled out of the workshops, so now they sit in there cluttering up the place. Shouldn't there be some kind of limit on how many items a dwarf will claim?  :(

I've looked through this, and there isn't an obvious problem.  They do check through their possessions before buying more clothes.  If somebody has a save where this process is ongoing (not where it is already done), then I'll be able to fix it quickly.

Well I thought maybe part of the problem was that I didn't have enough stock piles, but after I built some, the new clothes were moved, and then immediately claimed before they could make it to the shops.

This is just speculation, but part of the problem might be the fact that the price of each piece of clothing has dropped to increadably low values. In my fort, a silk shirt that would normally be worth like 120 is only worth 8.

The prices screen shows shirts to be 50%... i donno how it got to 7% of the base price from that... even if silk was also 50% you would think the total price reduction would be capped at 25% or so... Well i guess it just doesn' work the way I assume it does.

Wait, had you ever modded this game?  Several of your dwarves are size 26 instead of size 6.  If the game ever went through a mod and some dwarves were generated, they'll be size 26 permanently.  In any case, one of the problems was that dwarves that are an incorrect size (like children, but also giant dwarves in your case) would buy clothes that don't fit them.  That has been fixed now.

edit:  The Prices screen wasn't displaying everything.  The shirts are getting hit by three percentages.  The display has now been fixed.
