Its attached to your itunes account. The personal information is tied it because of that.

Try this : http://jsbi.blogspot.com/2007/06/how-to-easily-remove-your-account-name.html
or this : http://www.aimersoft.com/itunes-drm/remove-account-info-from-itunes-music.html

I don't know how much help they may be in your circumstances though as I don't have itunes.

Why does it actually matter?
Maybe because some people who buy music from itunes are uploading those songs to the internet for free... so the companies have a way to track those who does this?

Or maybe he feels that it's his right to not have his name plastered all over an inherently insecure medium. Which I tend to totally agree with.

Some folks like to have a security blanket. Something make believe to allow them have a little bit of control.

iTunes music is DRM protected IIRC, so there's no point in doing that.

I could have sworn there was a tool somewhere you could use to convert iTunes format (m4p?) into MP3s, but there were some restrictions on how it was used (had to be used from the computer that downloaded the music originally or something like that).

Or maybe I'm crazy and that only applied to music ripped by iTunes.

I'm pretty sure FFmpeg and lame can do the trick. Try this on any computer with FFmpeg:
Code: [Select]
$ ffmpeg -acodec libmp3lame -i in.m4a out.mp3

One lame work around is to burn to CD, then re-rip the audio CD...

In any case, burning purchased tracks to a CD makes a good backup, in case the service goes down, or is otherwise inaccessable to you.

Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

I just heard of that. If the music is DRM free, they might remove the personal information from it too. My guess is it's just there to tell iTunes that the song's owner is X.
