If you can see a smiling dwarf, he must not be a dwarf, because dwarves have beards and the beards hide the smile ... so if you can see it, then it it doesn't have a beard and thus isn't a dwarf.  It might weigh as much as a duck, however ...

Well, Toady encourages this with naming conventions chosen to produce puerile puns.

Like having "donkey" as the only asinine animal available in regular gameplay and "ass" as a base for beasties.
