The travels of Conner Ringfinder (Attempt 2)
« on: February 19, 2012, 09:40:37 am »

10th of Galena, 250

I am a scholar. I read, study, and translate. I'd never done anything different. It is safe, calm, and I enjoy it. However, I can no longer do this.

The Monarchy has begun to shut down all studies that may go against them or their beliefs. I have begun to be pestered by guards and agents attempting to influence what I publish. I have gathered some of my belongings and enough food and water to last me a day or two. I also stole an silver two-handed sword and a bronze shield from the combat arts training wing of the academy, where I trained to to be adequate at swordplay.

I will be recording my travels in this journal. If I shall die, I wish for my writings to be published for all to see.

I had never spent much time studying geography, so I had little knowledge of the surrounding area outside of nearby towns. I decided to stop at a home, where I met Mirding Osmanaguv, a farmer. After asking about the surrounding area and learning both places of interest, such as tombs and hunting spots, as well as places to avoid, I asked if there was anything I could do for him. I don't have any money, and I need to be able to buy what I can't get myself.

Mirding told of a creature of the night that terrorizes their people. Busla Hairferried resides at this place, and has killed four in his lust for murder. I give Mirding my word that I will go there and slay him.

As I was leaving, Mirding warned me that his body was beyond reckoning, twisted into a beastial form. He also said that Busla is resilient to all metals besides steel. I attribute this to nothing more than superstition, and shrug it off. However, I have read and heard of strange beasts that roam the nights. I must be cautious.

10th of Galena, 250: entry 2

I defeated him. After a short duel within his cave, I was severely wounded, but I managed. I repeated bludgeoned his skull and chest with my silver warhammer, as well as stabbing him in the stomach, until he lost consciousness. He landed a few hits on my upper body and caused some heavy internal bruising, but I think I will survive. As long as I can reach the nearby town, I will be fine.

I decided to go deeper into the cave to see what riches may lay in store. As I was traveling through the corridors, I found a corpse of another human. He bore an iron helmet, iron two-handed sword, and a copper shield. No doubt, he was a previous adventurer who had been tasked with defeated Busla. I felt connected to him somehow, as if he were a distant cousin or passing acquaintance. After a moment of silence, I took his sword and shield, leaving my lesser-quality equipment behind. I also donned his helmet. I will honor this previous adventurers legacy, no matter how short, through wearing this helmet.

After looting the cave of all valuables, including hundreds upon hundreds of copper and silver coins, I left the cave and went to the town of Idohiner, about a half hour towards the north of the lair. I spread the news of my success to the members of a household near the center of town. After receiving my praise, I ask if I may stay the night, and the owners gladly oblige.

11th of Galena, 250

I decide to travel northwest to the town of Asluusmok, where I plan to recieve my next task. As I am walking down the street, I noticed a person. I'm not sure why I noticed her, but there was just something off about her. Upon closer inspection, I saw it.

She was wearing dozens of necklaces made from human nails, bones, teeth, and hair. I screamed for help from the others in the town as I accused her of being a night creature.

Suddenly, she shouts "I am Ronu Usubegi, Vampire! Prepare to die!" She charges at me, and I back away as the other villagers rush to my aid. She quickly decimates one of them with her copper slicing knife, ripping his gut to shreds and repeatedly stabbing him in the head. The other villagers arrive just as her first victim succumbs to blood loss. Ronu begins to come after me, and I retreat behind the other villagers, stabbing at Ronu when I can.

Suddenly, Ronu begins to retreat, and the villagers and I give chase.

Suddenly, and for a reason I cannot determine, I find myself in extreme pain, laying on the ground. As I attempt to retreat, the battle continues. I lose consciousness repeatedly as the battle continues on.

My left lower leg bone has been smashed apart, and my right upper leg bone is smashed open. I do not know how I will survive this.

Ronu ran off and left the town, so I make my way into another house to rest. To my extreme terror, I spot another one; Another human wearing jewelry made from human remains. He notices me staring at him, but says nothing. I believe that as long as I do not point it out, he will not become violent.

As I lay down to sleep, despite the fact that it is still morning, finish this days entry.

12th of Galena, 250

I was extremely surprised this morning. My wounds had healed! I still do not see how it happened, but I am no longer injured in any way! I feel absolutely fine apart from my hunger and thirst that has accumulated from sleeping all day. I must continue my journey.

I ask a villager what tasks may need to be done, and I learn that Ronu has not been confirmed dead, but that she is hiding somewhere in the village. After am hour of searching, I find her body laying on the outskirts of town. She had obviously died from blood loss after being wounded in combat. I report my findings to the villagers, and cautiously head to the other vampire.

I know the evil and strength of these beings now, and I cannot allow him to live. I will slay him and free this town from his terror.

I accuse him on being a night creature, and he announces that he is a vampire, and he fires his crossbow at the nearest villager. Everyone nearby begins to mutilate his body with knives and rocks, and I repeatedly slash at him with my sword, and he is quickly slain. six more villagers died in the battle, but the remaining villagers will no longer be tormented by this creature of the night.

25th of Galena, 250

I spent two weeks here in the town of Cishlon. The people here are quite friendly and are out of reach of the monarchies power. I may make my home here if I do not need to leave for some reason.

I asked a human Fisherman if there was any work to be done, and he told me of a man named Umci Hugtruth. He bore the same description of the man named Busla I had slain on the 10th of Galena. This shouldn't be too hard, especially since I now have a companion.

Liba Tiquoenil was one of the villagers that helped me slay Ronu and the other vampire in that village. She fought valiantly and with ferocity despite her small stature and weak body. I invited her to join me on my adventures, and she gladly came with me.

Liba and I found Umci Hugtruth, and we charged him. Liba slashed at him, but he dodged. I followed up with a slash to his left lower leg, but he dodged that as well.

Liba and I were taken aback by his agility. he repeatedly dodged almost all of our attacks. Finally, I landed a hit on his left hand, skewering it with my iron two-handed sword. I struck him in the head with my copper shield, and his skull was caved in, killing him instantly. Liba and I returned to town to report our success.

At this point, Liba and I had begun to like fighting beasts of the night. Not only did we find that we took joy in slaughter, but we also had deep satisfaction from helping the people of the world by killing those that terrorize them. We began to ask for more tasks, and accepted them with great excitement for the coming adventure.

We were tasked with slaying another creature of the night a days travel to the southeast of Cishlon. We stayed in Idohiner for the night, then continued onward to the lair. This one was even easier than the last. I was becoming more and more skilled with the sword, and I continued to gain better and better equipment as I looted the caves of my enemies.

25th of Galena, 250: Entry 2

I am feeling a strange hunger. More of a thirst, actually. Water doesn't quench it, and I don't find any satisfaction in eating any more. I don't know what is going on. I find myself having strange emotions towards people. My mouth starts to water when I see a person sleeping. I'm sure it's just from the stress of killing things, but I'm not so sure. I'll just take a good nights rest here in this village.

26th of Galena, 250

I'm so scared. I don't even know what happened! I woke up, and I immediately ran to the nearest sleeping person and started sucking their blood! I'm so horrified. I don't even know what happened! Somebody saw me, and everyone attacked me. I barely escaped with my life. I can't even walk or breathe, but I'm not dieing somehow. I think they killed Liba. I hope they didn't! I can't stop at any town for fear of being attacked. I need to sleep in the lairs of killed creatures.

Have I become a vampire?

28th of Galena, 250

I have become a vampire. I know this now. My bloodthirst is beginning to rise again, and the undead ignore me. I know this because I stumbled upon a tomb earlier. Upon entering, the corpses rose, but none attacked. They merely followed and watched.

I have nothing more to lose now. I heard of a necromancers tower from a villager before I turned. I will go there, and I will either die or succeed. If this journal is found, please carry out my last wish of this being published.

28th of Galena, 250: entry 2

The necromancers are friendly to me! It must be because I am a vampire. This might not be as bad as I thought. I am currently in the process of reading their tomes in the hopes of learning their secrets. I could raise an army of the undead...

29th of Galena, 250

I will try to make it to the nearby goblin settlement and reanimate some corpses. Night is falling though, and I fear that Bogeymen will be attacking. I'm not sure if I'll make it. I still can't walk, and my hands are incapable of grabbing. I think this is my last entry.

There is nothing more after this.

Hey, what do you know! He's asking me to kill the same guy that defeated my last attempt at an "adventurers log" after a duel.

Let's see how this goes...
