A cyclops killed 4 of my starting 7, so the leader throws what i assume is a complaint meeting, with everyone tantruming.  Soon, one goes melancholy, and dies of thirst, then the leader goes insane, and drowns himself.  Leaving my Woodcutter in good spirits and with "No Job" locked on.
Plausibly all stemming from the leader being moved to the barracks and rested in the middle of the meeting.
The meeting seemed to go on forever before it got broken up by the 2nd death, the drowning of the meeting conductor.
The woodcutter will eat, drink, sleep, and even be a good soldier, but will perform no tasks.
And, if you're counting, that leaves only one dwarf to do all the fort tasks.

good thing someone killed that cyclops.

You say he soldiers: have you been able to draft/undraft him? If so, and he's on duty, does his job change to soldiering?

Indeed it does.
Soldiering, Eat, Drink, Sleep, or No Job.

I'm assuming you've checked to make sure he has jobs enabled and there's a job for him to do (a workshop with a production task for example).

Was he a soldier when the meeting shenaigans went down? Or was he just a regular guy?

I don't know anything of course, I'm just trying to pull out more information for the bug report.

Yep.  Plenty of jobs enabled and to do, as he's one of two survivors in the fort.  He could go outside if he wanted, for that matter.  
He was a soldier when the cyclops attacked, as was everyone.
He was not a soldier when the meeting started or continued or was interrupted or was drowned  

interestingly, the other survivor was present during the meeting and was the same status of soldier/not-soldier at all times.  Yet, he's fine.

Yeah, the guy still thought he was in the meeting.  There are a few ways he should have detected that the other dwarf in the meeting was dead, and I'm not sure why those checks didn't work out right when the dwarf died or later on when he tried to resume the meeting.  In any case, I've added an additional check for stale meetings that will get him out once he's forgotten what the meeting is even about (which the woodcutter has).
