Can't get refuse stockpiles to work. Butcheries cluttered :(
« on: December 16, 2011, 05:02:25 pm »

Hello!

As the title says, I'm having a hard time getting my refuse stockpiles used to store my bones, skulls, horns & hooves, etc. Right now, everything stays in the butchery. Which is more than just cluttered. Nah, I want some order in there.

I've placed a default refuse stockpile and disabled (forbid) corpses and body parts. But it didn't accept anything. Then I placed a new default refuse stockpile, without forbidding anything. Doesn't work either. Then I tried a refuse stockpile that also allows corpses (not the sub-category from refuse, but the category corpses itself). Still doesn't work.

I had atleast 2 dwarfs idling for a couple minutes, but they didn't bother touching those bones and horns... What am I missing?

Thanks!

The best alternative to having a functional steel industry is to have a really, really, really good hospital. And a lot of coffins.

Is your butchery outside, and if so have you set 'o'rders - collect refuse from outside?

Do your dwarves have 'refuse hauling' enabled? (If you haven't tampered with job settings they should by default)

Are your stockpiles blocked with hidden rocks/other items? (Will likely only happen if you've dug out an underground refuse heap and hide stone to avoid screen clutter)

Is there a path between the stockpile and the butchery?

Can't think of many other options, but those are the ones that immediately spring to mind.

Thank you a lot! You solved my problem!

I always place my butchery outside to prevent miasma, and I didn't set the order. Actually, I have never used that order menu before, glad you made me discover it!

Anyways, thank you. Bones are piled in my stockpile underground now (:
