Preventing freezing, possible without magma?
« on: December 09, 2011, 12:35:50 pm »

You can probably see what happens in the image below, however, it doesn't work during the freezing season.  Any way to stop this without magma?

I'm afraid there's no way to stop the river freezing beyond magma... Once exposed to light, a tile no longer obeys dwarven physics, and is ruled by mother nature.

If your looking to have water during the cold months, you could always build an underground cistern. Once undergroud the water wont freeze.

If you just dig out under the water and fill the space with magma it will still freeze. For some reason still magma doesn't keep water liquid. To solve this problem you'll need to keep it churning with pumps.

Make a floodgated reservoir feeding from the river, if the floodgate is closed through winters, the reservoir water won't freeze on you.
