Insurrection Suggestion
« on: December 05, 2011, 09:50:14 pm »

What a good way to start off my time on the forum. A suggestion regarding insurrection and rebellion.

The main idea is, obviously, allowing your fortress to rebel against it's founders.

You could only do so once you reach 100 population and have a duke/duchess. If you do so, you basically declare war on your founding civilization. If your monarch is in your fortress when you do so, he/she and her/his royal guard will leave the fortress, fighting their way out if necessary. And then the dwarf civ will start fighting you. Sending sieges and stuff. You can reach peace with their diplomat if you wish.

If you do rebel, not all dwarves will be happy. Dwarves who like social stability will oppose the rebellion and get an unhappy thought, and may tantrum or go nuts. But, anarchist dwarves will get a happy thought. Then, your duke/duchess will become your new civilization's monarch. (Your civilization is named after the founding group's name) Your new monarch can appoint generals and the like, as well as diplomats and liasons to reach peace and agreements with other civilizations. Dwarf caravans will come less often if you make peace, but will still come. Migrants don't really change, except noble migrants don't come. You can send out caravans during autumn to trade with other civilizations, although some civs *cough*goblins*cough* won't be happy to see them. You can also send out seven-man expedition teams to make new fortresses that you can switch to upon their founding. You send caravans to them in autumn to trade, accompanied by a liason, and occasionally (but not often) dwarves will leave your fortress and become migrants. Dwarves unhappy with your fortress have a higher chance of leaving. However, your fortresses can rebel, so be careful.

So, what do you think?

Hmm, this is a good idea. It would be fun to perhaps, before the king/queen of your father civ escapes, get one of their family members and hold them ransom... in a cage hanging over a 3 Z level drop (or more I suppose) into a sea of magma...

(I feel like a horrible person every time that I play dwarf fort...)

I support this.  This is much better than the current loyalty cascade, anyway.

And with the upcoming army arc, the ability to completely demolish your former kingdom would be nice.

Heh, yeah, that could work. "Give us independence or Urist McMoron here will 'accidentally' pull this lever attached to this chain here which is suspending your precious Urist McHeir over a pit of lava! What's it gonna be?"

Which would either end in an invasion of your fort (resulting in a char-broiled dwarf), or someone pulling the lever, or peace. Or the last two at once.

Yeah. Although with all the legendary guys your civilization could have, that might not end well.

Thanks, everyone!

I support this idea. It would mean that I could theoretically become strong enough to rise against the capital, take it's place, then send out a founding party and start again! Until eventually I lay claim to every last piece of earth there is, and am left with a single megafortress, more powerful than any other force in that world's existence.

Also, being in charge of the whole civ, I may be able to make peace with the goblins, so that's cool.

Yeah. You could trade for all the babies they've snatched over the years.

Also, when you send the caravan to your fortress, you pick what it takes and who goes with it. When it returns, the workers empty out the wagon. Your liason conducts a meeting with someone and tells them about the fortresses' state. Who has died since the last visit, any animal adoptions, and so on. You only know if the fortress fell if your caravan goes there and doesn't find them. Or doesn't come back. In the first case, the liason will tell you that the fortress has fell.

If the fortress hasn't fell but is unreachable, or if the liason didn't talk with anyone, the liason will just tell you that he couldn't get to them.

On another note, thanks for all the support!

Rebellions have been suggested and discussed a number of times, although the variety of terms for the concept makes searching difficult.

Ah. There's a....lot. Hm. Well, that's great. Lots, lots of suggestions for this.  Guess this post is kinda redundant, then.

Never seen that happen.

Replace "enslaved" with "conquered," and you are on the ball whenever elves have enough time to build up their immortal forces, free from internal murder and stuff.
