I've been having some trouble with getting my dwarves to slaughter animals.
When I assign the animals to get butchered,a dwarf goes and gets them, once he grabs the I just get hundreds of "job cancelled: could not find path find path" messages. This is happening withs everal different dwarves too.
I haven't had this problem before in this fortress. I've checked the doors between them and the butcher and they are all passable and I've built extra stairs in case congestion was the problem, but nothing has help.
Anyone have any idea about what is happening here?

Is the only access to the butcher's shop through its upper-right corner? That part of the shop cannot be walked through (it's the dark green 'X's when placing the shop), thus such a shop would be unusable.

Its not that. I've checked the layout and its fine, I even built an extra door to no avail.
This butchers workshop has been around for a while and has had no problems butchering in the past.

Are the animals accessible?  Sure you don't have one or two that fell off a cliff somewhere?

Aha! That was it, one of my animals was in my combat pit which was marked as forbidden.
