Hatoful Boyfriend
« on: December 01, 2011, 03:18:40 am »

So normally I play games that require some amount of thinking or reflexes.

But there's this one game that's just so different from the rest that I just had to play it... and was pleasantly surprised by its hidden depths. It's a typical Japanese dating sim game, except, you date birds. And you play as a hunter-gatherer cavegirl. And the game can be finished in only 30 minutes if you know what you're doing. And at least three endings involve being violently murdered.

Something tells me we have a Manly Guys Doing Manly Things reader in our midst.

While it's not something I'd play, I'm very much interested in the B12 take on the game. Our normal habit of rules exploiting for great justice should prove amusing when applied to a pigeon dating sim.

^ The patch where you copy one file from the patch and replace one file in the game, apparently making it English.

I've got the patch, getting the game now.  I shall return post-haste with a new boyfriend, a cigarette, and the memories of a wonderful night.

No such luck - I learned of the game via a random Twitter post, which itself linked to an old crunchyroll post, which then inspired a bit of googling and a look on pixiv... of course none of this is important in the grand scheme of things

*Run game*
Hmm, this is rather well-polished.  Nice intro screen and such...
*Run through a bit of the intro dialogue*
Haha, this is pretty good!
*Runs through a bit more dialogue*
Oh shit this isn't a troll, this is serious ._.

And thus my fascination with little nerd boys gets me teary eyed once more...
'course I probably wouldn't care nearly as much except that it's 4 am and I'm in a weird state of mind.  Then again that's probably the best way to experience the soul movement known as "Hatoful Boyfriend."
