I thought the spirit of the rule(s) was to encourage content that actually has content, instead of posts/threads that aren't even discussion-oriented at all
Considering we have a "Things that made you happy today", "things that made you sad today", "things that made you rage today", "things that made you WTF today", and "Things you miss really really badly" threads, I fail to see how this one is different in any significant way.

I don't like those threads, and several other people have been annoyed by them too, but they're still different in that they're actually meant for talking about things, even if the overarching topic is kind of vague and people abuse the hell out of it.

Which is why I think it should focus on peoples pets and discussions of them as opposed to just pictures.

e: Amusingly this just popped up in my unread replies, though it is in Forum Games.

Yeah, it's just an issue of history.  Universally, image-only threads have turned out badly, and I have to come in and lock them when they become nonsensical and/or pornographic.  So it's just not something we can have.  People are welcome to try a pet topic if there isn't one about, but the words-to-picture ratio has to have some heft to it.
