This just in! It turns out the original map was not oreless after all and I did not screw up the world gen!.. The problem is, the only ore I have is sphalerite. So in the event I was making a tin based desert fortress, this news would be wonderful. But I'm not, so it is not. My new map has plentiful copper, gold, silver, lead, and most importantly IRON. I have tons of the stuff, so this will be wonderful. I am thinking this should probably be scrapped and moved to the community section. ALERT TO ALL. I will be abandoning this failfort and moving it to the community section where it will all go smoothly and without a hitch! Yay!

I've been having troubles since I removed aquifers... The gold and cassiterite veins were no larger than 3-5 units. Is this normal for you?
No, removing aquifers has nothing to do with that. What mineral scarcity setting have you made the world with?

Mine's at 100 (so most minerals possible) I didn't think it would affect it, but it's the only thing I've changed so it was the first suspect.

I haven't noticed this but since I removed aquifers Flux no longer appears on embark tile selection. It exists on the maps but I can't tell if I'll have any on embark.

I've never been able to see if there was flux when I embarked  :P

Regardless, I think it was just that world because I tried a few more embarks then a few embarks on a new world and it worked out just fine.

On to the main topic, how's the fort coming along since you restarted?

It is coming along much better than the first actually, I spent most of the day working on it and I think it shows. There is a link in the OP to the new thread. If you want to be dorfed, simply ask.

This sounds really intense.

I've had really good luck with desert biomes so far, at least with the terrain.

That incident was really what clued me in to the depth this game can offer, though that one time I made a fort of 150 dwarves suspended over a gorge and cut it all loose was pretty fun too.
